ACCOUNTING AND FINANCE REFERAL LIST
The Center for Nonprofits does not endorse accountants or make referrals to specific accountants for
nonprofits. The CNP does not screen accountants; rather we rely on the accountants to let us know
their interest and qualifications. The CNP simply acts as a referral service. If you have questions,
please contact Kate Skonberg at the Center for Nonprofits at (423) 752-0308 or
kateskonberg@cnpchatt.org.
Some questions to consider asking before engaging an accountant to help your nonprofit:







What experience does the accountant have in handling matters like the one you need help with?
Can the accountant provide a reference from a former client, or better yet, a former nonprofit
client?
Will this be the accountant handling your work, or is it possible that the case would be assigned to
another accountant or other staff member? And if so, could the nonprofit speak with this person
also?
Does the accountant return his or her own emails and phone calls?
Does the accountant have a written agreement for representation that you can review?
How will the accountant charge your nonprofit his/her services?
Does the accountant have professional liability insurance?
