Believe it! Achieve it! January 2015 Issue Principal Notes from Mrs. Garland Welcome back to school after a well-deserved break! It is again time to buckle down and get to work. January starts off with basketball and Academic Meets for the Middle School and the High School. The sophomore class will be sponsoring a chili supper on Tuesday, January 13. Please make plans to support our sophomore class then attend our high school basketball game against Christian Fellowship School. There will be an early release day on the 16th for teacher in-service. There will also be no school on the 19th for observation of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. All freshmen will be participating in the Truth and Consequences Program. Fulton County will be hosting the program this year. Parents of freshmen students are urged to participate, too. The Middle School District Basketball Tournament will begin January 26, hosted by Fulton County this year. There are only six more Middle School games left. Come on out and support our Middle School basketball teams as they begin to finish up their season. As everyone gets back into a routine, it is important to remember that we all are here for education. Power comes from knowledge. Knowledge comes from education. Education requires reading, writing, arithmetic, and studying. As the new year begins, Mrs. Rose will be meeting with seniors helping to preparing FAFSA worksheets for college. It is time to begin thinking about what you really want to do and/or where you want to go to college. Think about KEES money; completing your ILP for your resume; getting scholarships completed; getting references from your teachers. It will be a busy time and go by very fast. And for underclassmen, you need to also think about KEES money for college; your GPA. And for those who will go into the military or directly to the work force, these things are still very important. As the semester goes on, remember the GROWL tickets that you can get; rewards for no tardies and/or no referrals. Be listening for the drawings. Beta Club News from Ms. Roberts Beta Club meetings have changed this semester. January lunch meetings include Jan. 7, 15, 22, 23. State Beta Convention in Louisville is January 25-27. Family Connection News from Ms. Pulley Advisory Council The Family Connection invites all interested parties to attend its bi-monthly advisory council meeting on Wednesday, January 21 at 1 p.m. The meeting takes place in the TFC room at Carr Elementary (upstairs, room 201). TFC coordinator Tracy Pulley will update the council on what she’s been doing for the children and families of the Fulton Independent School District. Input is always welcome. For more information call 270/472-1637. Winner, winner Congratulations to Jackson Ames, winner of the magnetic building set given away by Jason Lindsey of Hooked On Science. Lindsey presented a fascinating science program in December at Fulton High School and offered the set as a door prize for attendees. The event was funded by the Title One Parent Involvement program. WatchDOGS The Family Connection wants everyone to meet Willie Nicholson, our newest WatchDOG. Mr. Nicholson is the grandfather of Tyler Bishop. He volunteers every Tuesday, visiting with Carr Elementary students during lunch. Look for Mr. Nicholson in his WatchDOG shirt and say hello. If you are a dad, uncle, cousin or grandfather of a Fulton Independent student and would like to learn about the WatchDOG program call The Family Connection coordinator Tracy Pulley at 270/472-1637. Relay for Life Relay for Life coin drive will start when we get back from Christmas break. No junk food in my home, more vegetables, healthier meals and, yes, I am even going to do some much dreaded exercise. How about the rest of you? There is walking, going to the gym, or just exercise at home. Start your new year off right. New Year’s Resolution Week is January 1-7.
