Briefing ID #: 11763 ALL SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL PRINCIPALS/APs – Dual Enrollment (DE) - Florida International University (FIU) Professional Development Category: Professional Development Audience: Principals/APs (Senior High) Due Date: Meeting Date: May 14, 2012 May 24, 2012 Attachment(s): B_no_11763_Dual_Enrollment_Curr_Workshops_11-12.docx To inform all principals of a mandatory Dual Enrollment curriculum meeting for all high-school teachers currently teaching or preparing to teach one of the Florida International University Dual Enrollment courses listed below at an M-DCPS high-school In an effort to support high-school teachers in the delivery of the Dual Enrollment curriculum offered at an M-DCPS high school through Florida International University (FIU), the Division of Mathematics, Science, and Advanced Academic Programs, in partnership with the College of Arts and Sciences, FIU, has arranged a mandatory meeting for high school teachers currently teaching selected Dual Enrollment courses or preparing to teach selected Dual Enrollment courses for the School Year 2012-2013. Separate sessions will be held for Dual Enrollment teachers in the following subject areas. Only teachers currently teaching or preparing to teach the following courses should register to attend: o ENC 1101 & 1102 (Writing and Rhetoric I & II) o MAC 1105 (College Algebra) o MAC 2147 (Pre-Calculus Math) o PSY 2012 (Introduction to Psychology) o All History Courses Sessions will be facilitated by the respective faculty for each of the FIU curriculum departments represented. Sessions will focus on the following: university adjunct expectations, Dual Enrollment student expectations, curriculum standards and grading policies, content and pacing of instructional material, and RIGOR in the college-level course. Attendance is mandatory. Participants should arrive on time and calculate the time it will take to drive to the University, park, and walk to the Wertheim Conservatory. A Meet and Greet General Session with a light breakfast followed by the Dual Enrollment Curriculum Sessions will be held as follows: DATE: Thursday, May 24, 2012 TIME: 8:30 AM - 12 Noon PLACE: Florida International University, Modesto Maidique Campus 12800 SW 8th Street Miami, FL 33199 Wertheim Conservatory Teachers will be sent a parking permit and a map with directions prior to the event. Teachers will need to register on the Professional Development portal http://calendar.dadeschools.net/cal/calendar.nsf by Monday, May 14, 2012. It is very important that DE teachers register on the PD portal under the correct DE session that pertains to their subject area. Teachers will earn four (4) Master Plan points for this half-day workshop that includes a follow-up activity. Substitute coverage will be provided by the Division of Mathematics, Science, and Advanced Academic Programs through the following funding structure: Fund 100000, Program 90210000, Object 514900, Function 612000, Location 1962800. School site administrator must complete and fax the attached Sustitute Reconciliation Form for teachers in attendance.
