EVENTS FOR THE WORLD DAY REMEMBRANCE OF TRAFFIC VICTIMS IN LEBANON NOVEMBER 2013 On the occasion of the World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims, “YASA” and “Zeina Hauch Fondation” organized the celebration of a big mass at the shrine of our lady of Lebanon in Harissa on Sunday November 17,2013 In the presence of many relatives and parents who have lost a dear one in a Crash. Several government and officials were also present : Col Marcelino Farah ,president of the traffic division, Capt Michel Moutran from the general control room ,Capt Richard Karam representatiatives of the General Security Forces and the Civil Defense , Dr Sami Mokadieh ,secretary of Federation Europeene des Victimes de la route FEVR, M Joe Daccache, president of LASSA, M Eddy Nehme co founder of “ Wing’s Riders association”, M Ronny Alpha from “Roads for Life”and representatives of social institutions dealing with public services and families of the victims and a large crowd of worshipers. Mrs. Celine Chamat wife of deceased Habib and Ms Georgette Hanna , who lost her husband , Camille and Ms. Rose Safi, who lost her son , Jean-Marc as a result of a fatal traffic accidents said the prayers and presented the offerings. . Father Younan said : " We pray for all victims who left us tragically and ask the Lord for mercy because we , according to the teachings of the Church , are with them together as one company and we offer our prayers “ In conclusion, the following statement was distributed " World Day Remembrance of the Traffic Victims is being celebrate in the whole world the 3rd Sunday of every year in November . Access to the report of the World Health Organization of the United Nations , which includes figures 1,300,000 deaths annually and 50,000,000 million wounded, 46% of the victims are pedestrians or driving a bicycle , and the main causes of traffic accidents is speed , alcohol, not wearing a helmet or seat belts , which reduces the proportion of 65 % of the collision force or not acquiring the chair dedicated to the protection of children and the need to provide first aid before reaching the hospital for treatment . " Events for the WDR in Lebanon - November 18,2012 Mass at Basilica of our Lady of Lebanon in Harissa for the remembrance of road victims in Lebanon On the occasion of the World Remembrance Day for Road Crash Victims, YASA is organizing as every year, memorial masses in various churches. A mass was held onSunday November 18, 2012 by the Father Khalil Elwen at Basilica of our Lady of Lebanon in Harissa for the remembrance of road victims in Lebanon namely Liliane Atallah and Jean Mark Safi. Many people participated in this mass to remember those lost in traffic crashes. The mass was dedicated to all the victims. After the bible was read, religious words and thoughts were given by Father Khalil on the issue of road safety and the tragedies that are invading families. He confirmed that it is not God who is to be blamed, but it is the responsibility of the reckless driver and road user as well as the road infrastructure and the government that is absent to implement the law. He also called on the responsible people to take action to improve this situation. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Closing Mass of the World Week for Road Traffic victims in Lebanon Location: Church of St Takla Bouchrieh – Metn Date: Saturday, November 24, 2012 With the increase of road traffic victims in Lebanon and particularly in the past five weeks, YASA Association in collaboration with the European Federation of Road Traffic Victims ,FEVR, LASIP, and LASSA and Zeina Hauch Foundation and with the presence of the victims' families participated in the closing Mass of the World Week for victims of traffic accidents chaired by the church pastor in Mar Takla Bouchrieh Father Joseph Sweid. Father Sweid explains in his sermon the importance of traffic awareness in order to successfully apply the new and modern traffic law published October 25, 2012 in the Official Journal by the state and the citizen. In addition, he emphasized on the importance of cooperation between the internal security forces and civil society to face the widespread chaos on the roads. This mass is closing a whole week of activities and campaigns, which was launched at Our Lady of Lebanon – Harissa on Sunday, November 18.
