Lebanon Road Elementary 2015-2016 School Year PARENTAL INVOLVEMENT POLICY The Lebanon Road Elementary School’s Title I School-wide Project encourages parents to be involved in their child’s education. This policy outlines the parent involvement activities that will be conducted during the school year. Parents will receive a copy of the Parent Involvement Policy (this document) which describes the ongoing activities that are held to inform and involve parents in their child’s education. Parents will receive a copy of the Parent-School Compact-this is an agreement between the home and school outlining everyone’s responsibility for supporting student learning. A school open house will be held on August 21, 2015. The annual Title 1 meeting and Literacy Family Night “Books and Blankets” will be held on September 24, 2015. o This meeting will give parents the opportunity to actively participate and have input into the School Improvement Plan and Parent Involvement Policy we have as a Title I School. o Balanced Literacy framework and strategies for reading at home with your child will be shared. The second curriculum night, science curriculum night, will be held on October 15, 2015 and will focus on agriculture and science. A third math curriculum night or parent lunch will be held in the spring and will focus on math games. The first School Leadership Team meeting will be held on September 24, 2015. o This meeting will give parents the opportunity to actively participate and have input into the School Improvement Plan and Parent Involvement Policy we have as a Title I School. Suggestions on how to work with your child, lists of good books to read with your child and other information will be sent home, placed on teacher’s wikis and found on the parent blog (www.lettersfromleo.com). These suggestions will provide opportunities to train parents to help their children succeed in school. Parent-teacher conferences are scheduled for October 23,2015 or before. Teachers will be available to review your child’s progress and answer any questions you may have. The school will translate the documents and connect-ed messages that will be sent home to parents and will also have interpretation available when needed to facilitate the communication between staff and parents A communication folder will be sent home every Tuesday with the students as a form of communication between parents and the school. The student agenda (grades 2-5) is used as a daily communication tool between home and school. Pre-K, kindergarten and first grade teachers use daily communication logs to inform parents of student progress. We invite you to call the school to ask any questions you may have or to schedule a visit or meeting. It is our hope that your children will have wonderful experience learning at Lebanon Road Elementary School. Parents will be encouraged to participate in the School Leadership Team, Parent Teacher Association and other school activities.
