FOOD PANTRY AT WMHS CHANGE Due to the BOE meeting that will be held at WMHS on Wednesday, November 11th they are changing the Food Pantry date that week to Thursday, November 12th. PARENT PICK-UP For safety reasons, parents picking up their children at dismissal on Key Alley are asked to wait until they are given the “all-clear” by school staff before pulling away. Parent Pick-Up cars are dismissed after Wave Two Busses have pulled forward on Longwell Avenue. For the safety of our students, cars are never permitted to pull out of line on Key Alley and leave prior to the assigned time. We thank you for helping us make sure dismissal is safe for all of our students! PTO NEWS Start Clipping your Box Tops. The PTO is running a contest beginning November 2nd until November 30th. SNOWDOGS East Middle School is selling Night Club Card Passes to Liberty Mountain, Whitetail, and Roundtop Resorts. Attached are instructions to purchase the passes online. Provided sufficient purchases through E SNOWDOGS group, it is our intention to take four bus trips to Liberty Mountain this winter. The dates include: January 8, January 14, January 22, and February 4 with a rain date of February 12. Be aware that two of the dates are on Thursdays this year. The cost of the bus will be $50 and will cover all four trips. The forms and paperwork have already been handed out to kids during FLEX; however, if your son/daughter needs the information, please let me know. When purchasing the passes, please be advised of the following: Night Club Cards must be purchased under the E SNOWDOGS account to be eligible for the bus transportation. The only other exceptions are Advantage Card and Season Pass holders. The possibility exists that we might not be able to provide transportation to Liberty on the dates referenced above should there be insufficient student interest. Please keep this in mind when purchasing your passes. In the past, we’ve always filled two busses; however, there is no guarantee this will be the case this year. If you have ANY questions concerning the East Snow Dogs Club, please email Lorene Livermore at lkliver@carrollk12.org. A lot of famous or important people have had their faces on postage stamps. Who would you nominate to appear on a new stamp? Why do you admire this person? Why should they be recognized in this way? Offer specific support for your choice. 2. “One of the greatest discoveries a man makes, one of his great surprises, is to find he can do what he was afraid he couldn’t do.” – Henry Ford Think of a time you were afraid to do something. Describe in detail your experience and what you learned from it. VETERAN’S DAY RECOGNITION CEREMONY East Middle will honor our own relatives that are veterans and currently serving during a ceremony that will be held at EMS on Tuesday, November 10th at 2 pm. We would be honored to have veteran’s attend with their East Middle School students. Pictures of family members who have served our nation will also be displayed in an “Honor Roll” that will run during our Veteran’s Day assembly and in addition to this their names will be read. Please send in photographs (copies of them are great too!) or submit names of any family members who have served in the military so we can honor them. Homeroom teachers will collect the pictures and information. Pictures will be returned when the display is over. CHARLOTTE HALL VETERANS HOME DONATIONS This year 8th graders will be assembling care packages for the Charlotte Hall Veterans Home in Charlotte Hall, Maryland. Over the next two weeks, we will be collecting monetary donations to support this cause. Any donation that is made can be turned into any Social Studies teacher and will be used towards purchasing goods for the care packages. CANNED FOOD DRIVE SHOUT club is sponsoring a canned food drive during the month of October. Canned foods collected will be donated to Carroll Food Sunday. Last year SHOUT club raised 480 lbs. of canned food that filled up the back of Mr. Andrews’ pick-up truck. Let’s try to beat last year’s record weight. Please donate any canned food items that have not expired. Canned foods can be delivered to Mr. Andrews’ and Mr. Depace’s room. DIVERSITY CLUB FUNDRAISER The Diversity Club is sweeter than ever! From now until October 30th, we are selling Krispy Kreme donuts to help raise money for our club! Boxes are $8 per dozen. See a diversity club member for details. CAC UPDATE On October 26, 2015 the Board of Education (BOE) and the Boundaries Adjustment Committee (BAC) held a work session. At this session, the BAC presented option No. 5 which would close Charles Carroll Elementary, New Windsor Middle and North Carroll High schools in the 20162017 school year and a second round of school closures in the 2017-2018 school year. Those schools affected will be determined at a future date. Mr. Guthrie provided his reasoning for choosing to close North Carroll High, rather than Winters Mill in Option No. 5. Moving more than 700 students from East Middle to Winters Mill, a school with capacity for 1,249 students, was a concern. If Winters Mill were converted to a middle school, there would be about 43,000 square feet of excess space with no plan on how to use the space. Mr. Guthrie plans to make a final recommendation to the board on school closures and redistricting at the November 11 BOE meeting. If approved by the BOE to move forward, the recommendation will go out for public comment and they will hold four public hearings. At the December BOE meeting, the Board make a final vote.
