Roses in My Window Workshop

Kit #3 (optional): $35
An optional kit is available for this project for $35 and contains the following items: the pattern;
several pieces of hand dyed cotton and silk fabrics in greens for the leaves and stems; a piece of
Ultra Suede for leaves or calyx; silk ribbon; embroidery floss; 2.75 yds of wired ribbon for the flowers;
1.25” x 42” strip ombre shaded fabric for the ruched rose. Kit does not contain background, sashing
or border fabrics. Colors of the green fabrics and ribbons will vary in each kit.

Pattern only (no kit): $5
Supply List:
Main fabric: 4 squares of background fabric (I used beige prints) each cut 9” square. Students will
not need sashing or border fabrics during the workshop. Directions for assembly will be given in the
pattern and can be purchased after the workshop.
Embroidery Supplies: hand embroidery needles: (I recommend a multi-pack, with sizes 3-9);
chenille needles: Size 22 to 24; small scissors for clipping thread; embroidery hoop (I like a 4” spring
tension hoop).
Appliqué supplies: 1 yd freezer paper; scissors for fabric and paper; pencil; iron (I like either a
Hobbico craft iron, or the Clover Mini Iron II, or a travel iron); ironing mat; spray starch or sizing
(regular starch, not heavy weight –I prefer Magic Sizing); a small paint brush (e.g. 1/4” stencil brush)
to apply starch to seam allowance; silk thread (I like YLI silk thread in #100 in color #264 or #242 or
similar neutral be and green #221 or #236; milliner’s or straw needles - size 10 or 11; Roxanne’s
Glue-Baste It. Note: Freezer paper and Magic Sizing will be provided.
If purchasing one of the kits, you do not need to bring the below listed items: Fabrics
for leaves and stems: assorted green fabrics for leaves and stems, in small pieces. Students
purchasing a kit will have assorted pieces of greens in hand dyed cotton and silk fabrics included in
the kit, as well as a piece for the ruched rose.
Wired Ribbon: 3 different wired ribbons: 1 yd each of 1.5” wide for the gathered roses; 3/4 yd of
1.5” wide ribbon for the pleated rose.
Embellishments: 4 mm silk ribbon in variegated greens (about 3 yds), variegated embroidery floss,
1-2 different skeins, Elly’s Embellishment Thread in greens and beiges (sold by the spool). Many of
these items will be available for sale separately at the workshop or included in the kit if purchased.
Flowers: 3 yds 1.5” wired ribbon - 3 different but coordinating colors, or all the same color. Ruched
Flower: 1/8 yd crinoline base fabric.
