Senior Common Semester Exam Review Sheet
This is a cumulative exam, meaning it covers material from both the first AND second nine
weeks.
Material covered:
Beowulf
Sir Gawain and the Green Knight
The Canterbury Tales (Prologue, Wife of Bath, Pardoner’s Tale)
Hamlet (through Act III)
It would be best to review your handouts from the items above. If you would like to borrow a
textbook and reread passages, please let me know. We will review in class for approximately 45
minutes the week before the exam.
You will be allowed to use your textbook on the exam, but please know it is your responsibility
to be prepared ahead of time. The testing period is 1 hour and 15 minutes. There will not be
enough time for you to reread entire passages during the test.
Know the following:
Beowulf (pages 24-52)
Plot (the fight with Grendel, the Fight with Grendel’s mom)
Characteristics of Beowulf including motivation
Sir Gawain and the Green Knight (pages 166-181)
Plot (what happens, when and where)
Characteristics of Sir Gawain including his motivation
Characteristics of the Green Knight including his motivation
Be able to identify an example of alliteration
The Canterbury Tales (Prologue pages 102-123, Wife of Bath pages 134-148, Pardoner’s Tale
pages 126-131)
Plot (what happens, when and where)
The attitudes of the characters and their motivations and descriptions
Hamlet (through Act III)
Know plot questions
Know who Hamlet tells to get to a nunnery and who he is referring to when he says
“frailty thy name is woman”
Know the characters, who they are related to, their descriptions and motivations
