CRITERIA ASSESSED: B: Organizing, C: Producing Text and D: Using Language
Description:
For this project you are going to be tasked with researching a person, event, place or issue of interest to
you. You will choose a topic and research it, using the historical method, but instead of a single traditional essay,
you will be expected to produce a minimum of 7 creative pieces in various genres chosen by you (Ex: poetry,
advice columns, diary entries, articles, letters, lists, recipes, collages, graphics, artistic representations, etc.)
Use your imagination to produce a multi-genre research paper that is based on fact. You’ll organize your writings
and put them into a topic-appropriate package. You will have a lot of freedom in this project. In addition to
choosing your topic and the genres of writing, you will also have the flexibility to choose the point of view you use
in each piece of writing.
In researching your topic of interest, you should try to discover a theme or thesis. The theme or thesis should be
incorporated so as to create cohesion among your separate pieces. Finally, this project should reflect not only
what you have learned about your topic, but also the spirit of it and how you have come to feel about it.
Length: 1000 words minimum
Due date: WEDNESDAY, MARCH 25th, 2015
Requirements:
 Topics must be approved by your teacher prior to beginning your project.
 You must use a minimum of 7 different genres to communicate your research, of which 5 must be
written pieces (as opposed to artwork, etc)
o Several genres will be explored in class through mini-workshops.
 Information about your subject should not be repeated too much. Ex: do not write an encyclopedia-type
entry with all the major facts and then present the same information in a creative piece. We should learn
new things about your topic with each piece of writing.
 Your pieces should be arranged in some logical order to best present yourinformation.
 You should create a cover or package for your project that reflects the nature and spirit of your subject.
 All sources must be documented in a bibliography using MLA formatting.
 THIS WILL BE YOUR KNOWLEDGE FAIR PROJECT: Some or all of your project will eventually need to be
presented on a presentation board, so bear that in mind while creating your project.

You should understand that I don’t have a certain preconceived idea of
what your project will be. I only know this much: I want your project to
be detailed; I want you to know your subject matter. I want your
project to be creative; I want to see imaginative – maybe even shocking
– uses of words, unique types of writing, graphics, or artwork to convey
the information. Most of all, I want you to give your best effort.
