The Second Industrial/The Second Agricultural Revolution Matt and Elise Set 8/African Asian Studies Mr. Klick What is the Second Industrial/Agricultural Revolution? • The Second Industrial/Agricultural Revolution was when Certain parts of Europe and the United States began to once again change their technology, the economy, and social aspects of the industrial world. This also included the change to mechanization and urbanization. Many farms started to use machines to help make farming and harvesting faster and more efficient. When did it take place? • The Second Industrial/Agricultural Revolution took place in the 19th century from the early 1870s through World War II and is occurring today. What Happened? • During the second Industrial/Agricultural Revolution many new inventions, ideas, economic, and social changes occurred. • Many new inventions helped make life a whole lot easier, faster, efficient, and some what safer. Who was involved? Multiple of countries all over the world, were involved in the second industrial revolution. Some were: France United States Germany Canada China There were many other countries in Europe that was involved in the second industrial revolution besides for just France and Germany, but they were two of the biggest. Shaping the World • Made many advances in technology and the economy. • People stopped using hand tools, and started using machines, which we still use today to produce many things. • Created many new jobs opportunities • Cities became more populated Urbanization • Urbanization refers to the process in which an increasing proportion of an entire population lives in cities, and the suburbs of cities • The growing urbanization had three major requirements for industrial growth. • First, most factories were located in the centers where coal and other raw materials were located. • Second, cities were normally located in the centers for transportation. • Third, the banks were usually located in political centers. The different Inventions • During this time many different things were invented. • For Example electricity, the telegraph, the telephone, the automobile, the assembly line, the phonograph, and many other things. • All of these helped contribute to the development of these countries. These also helped contribute the urbanization of these places. Transportation • Transportation made a huge impact on urbanization. The means of transportation were usually located in the cities, so the population settled around street cars, automobiles, and railroads. All of these made getting around a city and the suburbs faster, easier, and more efficient. Problems Even though there were many great new things that were being produced during the industrial revolution, it did have it’s problems.
