COLD WAR Mikayla Fetters, Amanda Minich, Hannah Bissett, Paige Miller, Jonny Ross, and Olivia Sexton The Cold War ● The Cold War lasted from 1945 to 1991. ● It was NOT an actual war ● It was the name given to the relationship between the United States and Russia USSR Cold War ● However There were wars over communism and capitalism. These wars include: ● Korean War 1950-1953 ● Vietnam War 1966-1973 Important Events 1950 - Korean War began. It was the 1st armed conflict. 1954 - SEATO is formed to stop the spread of communism in Southeast Asia. Vietnam War begins shortly after Vietnam splits, it was the US’s longest war. 1961 - Berlin Wall is built. Important Events 1962 - Cuban Missile Crisis, 13-day confrontation over missiles deployed in Cuba 1967 - Six Day War, was fought between June 5 and 10, 1967 by Israel of Egypt, Jordan, and Syria 1972 - President Nixon becomes the first US leader to visit communist China. Resolving 1979 - Soviet Union invades Afghanistan beginning a war lasting from 1979 to 1988. 1985 - New Soviet leader begins to ease away from old communist policies. 1990 - Berlin Wall falls. 1991 - START is signed to disarm nuclear weapons.
