COURSE DESCRIPTION: Continued instruction in listening, speaking, reading, and writing Japanese. The second in a sequence of
six related courses. (Approximately 50% of class conducted in Japanese.)

COURSE OBJECTIVES:
At least 95% of participating students should exit even the first level of language at TCC with a measurable oral proficiency which
is understandable to a native speaker of the target language.
At least 95% of participating students will develop proficiency in the four skills (listening, speaking, reading, and writing) in the
target language appropriate to the level of the course.
At least 95% of participating students will be able to understand the target language within the vocabulary/structure
limitations of the appropriate level when spoken by a native speaker at a normal rate of speed.
Students will have opportunities to acquire awareness and an appreciation of the people who use the target language.
EVALUATION:
Each evaluation will be assigned a number of points. At the end of the semester, all points will be totaled and a letter grade will
be based on the total. Final grades will be determined on an individual basis and not through competition with classmates. The
grades for this course will be calculated on the following basis:

ATTENDANCE:




The nature of this course requires that most learning take place during class time.
For more than 30 minutes late coming or early leaving, please provide documentation that confirms
necessity. Without documentation, the student cannot receive a participation credit.
More than 4 classes consecutive absence without contacting the instructor, students will receive an F on the 4th day
of absence.
Students who have more than 2 classes absent usually do not perform successfully on assessments or in class.
MAKE-UP POLICY:




Delay of exams is discouraged since they are timed to coincide with the best learning/performance period for the
students.
Contact the instructor prior to the quiz/test by email.
Provide documentation that confirms that legitimate reasons such as a doctor’s note at the beginning of the next
class. Without documentation, the paper won’t be graded.
Complete the test by the date the instructor assigns. The date cannot be changed.
LATE ASSIGNMENTS:



No more than 2 late assignments will be accepted.
Turn in the assignment by the end of the next class. After that, the assignment won’t be accepted.
No late assignments will be accepted on the final exam day.
LABORATORY: The language lab is located in SE1104, and students are recommended to use it their convenience. Genki CDs and
other audio materials are available in the lab.

BLACKBOARD: Students are encouraged to visit Blackboard (http://bb.tulsa.edu). Students will find study guides and
announcements. The site will be updated after every class and new homework information will be posted.
COURSE WITHDRAWAL: The deadline to withdraw from a course shall not exceed 3/4 the duration of any class. Check the TCC
Academic Calendar for the deadline that applies to the course(s). Begin the process with a discussion with the faculty member
assigned to the course. Contact the Advisement Office at any TCC campus to initiate withdrawal from a course ('W' grade) or to
change from Credit to Audit. Withdrawal and/or change to an audit from a course after the drop/add period can alter the
financial aid award for the current and future semesters. Students may receive an outstanding bill from TCC if the recalculation
leaves a balance due to TCC. Students who stop participating in the course and fail to withdraw may receive a course grade of
“F,” which may have financial aid consequences for the student.

Office365 email address; and you must use office365 email
to send email to, and receive email from, the instructor regarding this course.
Inclement Weather: TCC rarely closes. If extreme weather conditions or emergency situations arise, TCC always
gives cancellation notices to radio and television stations.

ACADEMIC DISHONESTY: Academic dishonesty (cheating) is defined as the deception of others about one’s own work or about
the work of another. Academic dishonesty or misconduct is not condoned or tolerated at campuses within the Tulsa
Community College system. Tulsa Community College adopts a policy delegating certain forms of authority for disciplinary
action to the faculty. Such disciplinary actions delegated to the faculty include, but are not limited to, the dismissal of
disrespectful or disorderly students from classes. In the case of academic dishonesty a faculty member may:

Require the student to redo an assignment or test, or require the student to complete a substitute assignment or
test;

Record a "zero" for the assignment or test in question;

Recommend to the student that the student withdraw from the class, or administratively withdraw the student
from the class;

Record a grade of "F" for the student at the end of the semester. Faculty may request that disciplinary action be
taken against a student at the administrative level by submitting such a request to the Dean of Student Services.
