Famous Tarheel - Timeline Project
Due date: Wednesday, February 18, 2015
Genre: Biography
Our next big project is to create a timeline about the life of an important person from North Carolina.
You will be using books and internet resources to learn about the person you select. While researching
your famous Tarheel, try to collect as much information as possible about this person's life and why they
are an important part of history.
Timeline
Choose 6-8 major events (or more) in your famous person's life, which you will write and illustrate in a
timeline. The description needs to be typed or neatly handwritten and should be at least one paragraph
in length. (4 or more sentences)
You will need to include a picture/graphic (either drawn or from the internet) for each event along with
a brief description of what took place on that date or in that year.
The famous person's name should be somewhere on the timeline, large and neat enough to read, with
your name underneath. The timeline will also include the years in which your famous person was alive
or when they were born if they are still living.
The way in which you create your timeline is up to you, but must show creativity. You can connect
pieces of paper to make a longer vertical timeline, use poster board, construction paper, or come up
with your own visual representation. Try making a timeline that creatively represents the person you
are portraying. (Ex: A guitar for a musician)
You will present your timeline to the class so make sure that it is something that you are proud to
share!
I have included a list of people to choose from. If there is someone you are interested in researching
that is not on this list, let me know. Some of the people listed will be easier than others to research, so
make sure you consider this when selecting your famous Tarheel! It is important to make your choice of
the person who you want to research quickly so you will have enough time to complete the project.
Don't wait until the last minute. We will be using time in class for you to do your research, but you must
assemble your project outside of class.
I am aware of the Famous Tarheel - Timeline project and its due date.

Since you will be using more than 1 source of information (books, internet, etc.) for this project, it is
important that you site your sources. Remember that when you collect research, you need to turn this
information into your own words when you begin working on the project. I have included a format
below for how to cite or share your resources with me.
