You are an up and coming psychologist, to help get your name out you are going to start a blog to help
people with their psychological problems. You will focus in the field of developmental psychology and
you are going to use one of the three psychologist theories to help some “hypothetical patients” by
using their theories of development to explain their behavior. You will be given these situations and you
must explain the patients behavior using that psychologists theory on development.
Use Piagets stages of development to explain the following behavior.
1. Danny insists that small people must live in a tv because it looks like they live right behind the glass.
2. Robert is adept to roller skating struggles to ice skate because he thinks that they were identical to
roller skates.
3. Sarah looks at a political cartoon of that depicts a snake with letters around the pieces of the snake.
She determines that the cut up snake with letters is a cartoon trying to tell the 13 colonies to join
together and become unified or they will not succeed as a nation.
Use Eriksons stages of Psychosocial development to explain the following behavior.
1. Ron is a 65 year-old-man who has been married several times and divorced. He currently has a parttime job and struggles financially. According to Erikson which of the following stages is Ron in?
2. Allie is a 13 year old girl she is struggling to find friends and to find things that she may be successful
in, she really struggles to find an identity. According to Erikson what is her current struggles.
3. Sally is a college graduate and has recently moved out of her parents house, she is becoming
established in her new job but is confronted by whether or not she wants to dedicate her time to her
career or establishing a relationships. According to Erikson explain why Sally is struggling in her current
situation.
Use Kohlberg’s stages of moral development to explain how one might behave in the following situation.
In Europe, a woman was near death from a special kind of cancer. There was one drug that the doctors
thought might save her. It was a form of radium that a druggist in the same town had recently discovered.
the drug was expensive to make, but the druggist was charging ten times what the drug cost him to make.
He paid $400 for the radium and charged $4,000 for a small dose of the drug. The sick woman's husband,
Heinz, went to everyone he knew to borrow the money and tried every legal means, but he could only get
together about $2,000, which is half of what it cost. He told the druggist that his wife was dying, and
asked him to sell it cheaper or let him pay later. But the druggist said, "No, I discovered the drug and I'm
going to make money from if." So, having tried every legal means, Heinz gets desperate and considers
breaking into the man's store to steal the drug for his wife.
Explain how someone in the following stages of moral development would react to the above situation.
