What are Supersets?
A Super Set is where you do 2 exercises back to back without any rest so for example…
Doing a bench press for 10 reps followed immediately by you doing bench rows for 10 reps would be ONE Superset
and…
Here's some basic guideline you want to follow when doing supersets…
It's best to do supersets with one pushing exercise that works your chest, shoulders & triceps and one pulling
exercise that works your back & biceps because…



When you do supersets with one pushing exercise like bench press or shoulder press and one pulling
exercise like pull-ups or bicep curls…
You'll perform better in those exercises plus you won't tire out your muscles since you will not be working
out the same muscle groups back-to-back but…
If you're going to do 2 pushing or two pulling exercises back to back in your superset make sure that you either use
light-to-moderate weights for both exercises OR make sure that only one of the exercises in your superset has you
using heavy weights (like a compound exercise) while the other has you using light-to-moderate weights (like an
isolation exercise) so for example…

Doing a heavy close grip bench press followed by a light weight triceps extensions is an example of doing
2 back to back pushing exercises in a superset using heavy weights for one exercise and light weights for
the other and another example is…

You can do bicep curls with light-to-moderate weights follow by you doing hammer curls with light-tomoderate weight and that's an example of you using light-to moderate weights for both exercises in a
superset consisting of two pulling exercises and…
When doing supersets for your legs follow the same rules…




It's best to do supersets where one set is done for the muscles of the front of your legs (your thighs) and
then another set for the muscles in the back of your legs (butt, hamstrings, & calves) so for example - 10
reps of squats followed immediately by 10 reps of calf raises make a good superset and…
if you're going to do 2 thigh exercises or two butt, hamstring or calf exercises in a superset make sure that
you either use light-to-moderate weights for your both exercises OR…
Make sure that only one of the exercises in your superset has you using heavy weights while the other has
you using light-to-moderate weights so for example…
Doing Squats and leg extensions together would be a good superset to get bigger thighs or doing butt
bridges and reverse hyperextensions would be a good superset for the butt

Finals - A Huge
Success
(Picture Hugo Andersson U-10 Main Event Winner)
This year’s Club finals were a great success. One of our old
boys, Simon Amery, returned to the Club Championships and
proved too strong for James Bird in the final. James pushed
Simon all the way but eventually lost 3-2. The semi’s saw the
young guard coming through and Matt Lovett pushed James
Bird hard before going down 3-2. Gus Beecroft pushed Simon
into a really hard first game losing out 22-20, before going down
3-0.
These two young lads also played each other in the U-19’s final
and probably produced one of the most entertaining matches of
the day. Matt eventually beating Gus 11-8 in the fifth.
There is a list of club champions up on the notice board.
We are running a Tennis League from the 9th of June and there is
a sign up sheet on the Club Tennis Notice Board if you are
interested.

to gauge your ability in the four racket sports against your Club

Well, what can I say? Its been a
busy month here at Moreton
Towers and it's go go go as we
approach summer. Try and make
the most of the light evenings
even if the sun is not as hot as
we would like! Feel free to send

July's Newsletter.
Until then......... please enjoy June
both here at the club and out in
the beautiful Suffolk countryside.
On a personal note, you may remember I told you about my MAD “Challenge” (Mums against DIPG) in honour of Abbie, Elsie
and Grace,in last month’s newsletter? If you are interested, here is what happened!!!
We were certainly blessed with the weather - thank you Abbie, Elsie and Grace for arranging that! It
was sunny with little to no wind - the weather conditions couldn't have been more perfect. This
helped us with our canoe on Windermere which only took us 4 hours as there was no wind to paddle
against. Everyone enjoyed the canoe - such beautiful scenery to admire though having been in the
boat for 4 hours drinking lots of liquids to stay hydrated the only thing on our minds by the end of it
was not how tired we were but how we all needed the loo immediately! Thankfully Ambleside is
blessed with a generous number of public loos - handy when 20 women need them at the same time!
We stopped for a snack and then hopped on the bikes to cycle across to Langdale. The cycle took an
hour through undulating lanes again with stunning scenery to take our minds of the occasional hill. It
was at this point it really started to feel like we were taking part in a challenge - our heart beats were
up and we were heading towards the mountain we were about to climb having just canoed
Windermere! We had fun on the bikes - but those saddles could be a little more comfy?!
We stopped for about 45mins to have a proper food break, change into the right gear and get our
packs ready for the ascent. We started heading up Scafell at about 3.30pm - 20 ladies heading up
whilst most people were heading down at that stage! The group naturally started to settle into
smaller groups adopting different paces each with an instructor. The sun was beating down and we
made our ascent through the corridor route. The route became a series of boulders to climb over and
was tough - we were all having to concentrate really hard to keep our balance. The first group
reached Scafell Pike, enjoyed the view and took photos for a couple of minutes before heading
straight over to Broadstand for a roped climb, over to the Scafell summit and then an abseil down
Broadstand.
Meanwhile, the remaining two groups made the Scafell Pike summit and were heading over to
Broadstand when one of our lovely challengers Gina took a serious fall. With a head injury and
suspected broken femur there was only one way that Gina was coming off the mountain and that was
by mountain rescue. Mountain Rescue were called and a team from the ground were sent up and a
RAF sea cat helicopter were called at 8.50pm on Saturday evening.
For those not in Gina's group we heard through the instructors' radios that someone had fallen with
serious injuries but we did not know who it was for a little while and it was very distressing to know
that one of our party was injured but not know who or what had happened. The extent of Gina's
injuries would not become clear until the next morning so it left the groups feeling worried but we
knew that she was in the best hands with Wasdale Mountain Rescue and RAF Boulmer. Three special
challengers played a vital role in ensuring that Gina was as best she could be whilst they wanted for
the rescue team. Beth, who was with Gina when she took her fall, Tasha, who is now known as
Florence Nightingale, and Mary - you are amazing for the parts you played in this situation, along with
the instructors, to help keep Gina as comfortable and safe as she could be for the rescue teams would
take a couple of hours to arrive.
The instructors also came into their own and handled the situation brilliantly with everyone's safety
their foremost concern. Because of the situation we were advised it would be best to get everyone
off the mountain immediately. It was a long descent which started in the dusk but soon turned to
darkness. About an hour or so into it we heard the wonderful sound and saw the rescue helicopter
arriving and we were all so relieved that Gina was being attended to. We made it off the mountain by
1am. There was a full moon that night but the moon was low in the sky behind the mountains so our
way was lit by headtorches.
We stopped for a food break and a cuppa. Never has a cup of tea tasted so good! Everyone was
pleased to be off the mountain though Beth, Tasha and Mary were still up there - they wouldn't make
it down until 4am. Their descent had been totally in the dark.
Then onto our final bike leg. With headtorches lighting our way we headed off to Derwent Water. No
street lights and no moon to light up our path it was an experience to ride on unfamiliar roads in total
darkness just trying to follow the red bike lights in front.
Onto our final canoe. Derwent Water was completely still - no wind and the water looked like black
silk. We set off and it took about an hour to cross the first Lake and then we headed off down a river
for the next couple of hours. An easier paddle as we were going with the flow. It was very
atmospheric - the full moon to the left of us, the sun rise coming up on the right hand side, and mist
rising up of the river. The river took our canoes around bends, over weirs, we occasionally got
grounded but our fab instructors took control at those moments. The river led us into the final stretch
of the challenge - along Bassenthwaite Lake. The final 90 minutes of the challenge. Off we went
canoeing in full daylight now and seeing our challenge coming to an end. The relief of everyone when
we paddled into the shore for the final time! There had been times when it felt like the challenge was
never going to end - particularly on our descent of Scafell. But we had done it! We had finished at
6am.
After lots of hugs, kisses and congratulations we headed back to the hotel for well deserved cups of
tea, breakfasts and some glasses of wine and non stop chatter and laughter about what we had all
just been through. All made better by the safe arrival back of Gina who had been discharged from
hospital - thankfully it wasn't a fractured femur but her muscle is torn and for a while yet Gina will be
hobbling around but she was still smiling - well done Gina
We were a team of 20 women, but our 21st team member was the Ravenstone Manor Hotel who just
blew us all away with the amazing care and attention they gave to us all. They went out of their way
to help and support us in everyway possible. We thank you wholeheartedly for helping us make this
challenge a success!
Our heartfelt thanks go to our AMAZING instructors - we are in awe of you and your abilities to get us
all through this challenge - you believed in everyone one of us and gave each of us the confidence to
get this challenge done. Alan, Special Steve, Steve, Adam, Lucy, Chris and Sam - we salute you!
And to Nathan! For making this happen for us - we thank you! You have turned us into a bunch of 20
women who can't stop talking about what our next challenge is going to be! Watch out Nathan - we'll
be back!
Finally, we send our love to our girls Abbie, Elsie and Grace for being our inspiration and motivating
force for undertaking and getting us through this challenge x
