Fill in the chart (all 3 columns!) on that picture. + The Break Down of the Articles + Annapolis Convention, 1786 Meeting at Annapolis, Maryland of 12 delegates from five states (NJ, NY, PA, DE, and VA) that called for a constitutional convention. Wanted to fix barriers that limited trade between the states. The commissioners felt that there were not enough states represented to make any substantive agreement. They sent a report to Congress and the states asking for a meeting the next May in Philadelphia. It expressed the hope that more states would be represented and that their delegates or deputies would be authorized to examine areas broader than simply commercial trade. The direct result of the report was the Philadelphia Convention of 1787. Convention Background + Shay’s Rebellion – – Group of farmers take over a court room to try to prohibit the court from seizing farmer’s property Prompted people to reevaluate the Articles of Confederation Convention delegates met in Philadelphia from May 25 to September 17, 1787 Convention was supposed to be focused on revising the Articles but most of the delegates were intent on creating a new government Chose George Washington to preside over the Convention
