Español III Señora Anne Riley ariley@westminsterknights.org DESCRIPCIÓN Y OBJETIVOS (Description and Objectives) ¡Bienvenidos a la clase de Español Tres! This year, we will be reviewing grammar and vocabulary from Spanish I and II. We’ll also be learning new material, practicing conversational skills, and improving literacy. Additionally, you will get to experience several cultural units this year, such as Spanish Art, Día de los Muertos, and Día de San Valentín. This year, you will be asked to: participate in Conversation Days, in which you will be graded on your conversational skills based on a topic relevant to the concept we are learning. read, comprehend, and respond to short stories written in Spanish, answering questions for an accuracy grade. write about various topics, using complex sentence structures and grammatical concepts, for a quiz grade. engage in cultural lessons and respond to the information you have learned by answering thought-provoking questions. EXPECTATIVAS (Expectations) During class, you are expected to: listen to your teacher because, let’s face it, she’s pretty awesome and she knows more about Spanish than you do. help your fellow students pay attention by paying attention yourself. engage in each segment of class with a willing, positive, and focused spirit. ask questions that are helpful and relevant. be on time (if you walk in after the door is closed, it’s a referral). You also need to bring the following things to class each day: Spanish textbook (if you don’t have it and we use it in class, it’s a referral). Workbook (if you forget to bring it and I check homework, you will lose points). Paper. Pen/Pencil. We will use a Spanish/English dictionary some days, so it would be helpful to have one in your locker, though you won’t need to bring it to class every day. TAREA (Homework) You will have homework most nights, usually in the workbook. I will usually check that your homework is done the next day, although there might be some exceptions to this. Homework grades are typically worth one point per question. Late homework (turned in after I have checked the assignment) will receive no credit. EXAMENES (Tests) In Spanish III, your tests and quizzes will typically fall on Friday. There are a couple of exceptions to this, which you will see on your class schedule. Quizzes are worth 50 points. Tests are worth 100 points. The vocabulary from each chapter will appear on each quiz and again on the chapter test. If you know that we have a test scheduled (and you do, since you have a class schedule), but you are absent on the day of the test, you must make it up the first day you are back at school. We will have two projects this year that will count for quiz grades. One of them is the Spanish Art project in October; the other is the Cinco de Mayo project in May. Both will be done mostly at school, but there may be some work done at home. PENALIZACIÓN DE TRABAJO RETRASADO (Late Work Penalty) As previously stated, late homework will receive no credit. Any large assignments, such as projects or papers, that are turned in late, will receive an 11% deduction per day. This is a school-wide policy, so you can expect consistency across the board. CRÉDITO EXTRA (Extra Credit) This year, you will have an opportunity to earn extra credit on each test you take by writing out a Bible verse in Spanish. The number of points will vary based on each individual extra credit assignment. I will give you the extra credit passage at the beginning of each chapter, and if you can write it word-for-word on your test, you will get bonus points!
