9/9- Introduction to class, overview of syllabus.
Basic technique and intervals
9/16- Due: Headphones and course packet printed out. Hanon 1 (hands separately),
Bartok 1 and 2, C and G major scales, First four measures of Ode to Joy
9/23- Due: Hanon 1 (hands together), Bartok 3 and 4, D and A major scales, Ode to Joy
mm. 9-12
9/30- Exam 1
10/7- Due: Hanon (hands separately), Bartok 5-6, E and B major scales, begin Morning
Mood
10/14- Due: Hanon 2 (hands separately), Bartok 7-8, F# and C# major scale, Morning
Mood
10/21- Exam 2
10/28- Due: Bartok 9-10 Major triads in all keys, Ab major scale, read "Chord
Construction"
11/4- Due: Minor triads in all keys, Eb major scale, blues left hand through chord
progression
11/11- Due: Diminished and augmented triads in all keys, Bb major scale, blues with
chords, begin Autumn Leaves and Minuet and be prepared to ask questions about them.
11/18- Exam 3
11/25 – Due: F major scale, Melody (right hand) of Autumn leaves, mm 1-4 of Minuet
12/2– Due: Diatonic triads in the keys of C, G, D, F and Bb. Harmony (left hand) of
Autumn leaves, mm 1-8. Minuet mm 1-8
12/9- Due: All of Autumn Leaves, mm1-16 of Minuet
12/16- Exam 4
All scales and chords will be played with proper fingerings, hands separately. All songs
will be played hands together
