Resources to Prepare you for Internet Explorer 9
Nothing is more important to us than keeping OnBase users up and running. That’s why
we want to arm you with all the information you need to know about the release of Internet
Explorer 9 (IE9) on March 15.
It’s important that you and your organization realize that IE9 is a significant change to
Internet Explorer and that it will impact existing applications, including OnBase. Because
of the changes Microsoft has made, previous versions of OnBase may not be compatible
with IE9.
By preparing for the release of IE9, you will be able to proactively prevent any problems
with your applications, including OnBase.
What are the changes in IE9?
IE9 is different than any browser before it and with it comes multiple changes from IE8
and before. The biggest one affecting OnBase is the way IE9 executes scripts. Microsoft
reports that the scripting engine in IE9 is much improved, making it much faster. (To get
technical, Microsoft says the IE9 Release Candidate completes the WebKit SunSpider
benchmark in 209ms. This is 3.5 seconds faster than IE8.)
To make IE9 so much faster, Microsoft had to make significant changes in the script
engine. These changes could affect custom code and we recommend working with your
Solution Provider or Account Manager to look into this.
What should I do about IE9?
You have a few choices when it comes to IE9 and OnBase:
If you want to upgrade to IE9, but not necessarily right away:
Hyland recommends customers hold off on upgrading to IE9 right away for a few reasons.
First and foremost, OnBase will most likely not be the only application affected by the
upgrade and customers should fully test all of their applications to ensure they are
compatible with IE9. In addition, OnBase 11 (scheduled for release in early summer 2011)
will be fully supported on IE7, IE8 and IE9.
If you want to upgrade to IE9 immediately:
Hyland will release the OnBase Pre –Release IE9 Compatible version very shortly after
IE9 is officially released. Customers will have to upgrade the database as well as add an
OnBase 11 Web Server and App Server. The IE9 compatible version will only have a
limited set of modules supported. It will not support IE7 or IE8. Most customers will have
to run a mixed environment to accommodate all users.
They do not plan on upgrade to IE9:
If customers do not plan on upgrading to IE9 within their organization, and can control the
distribution of IE9 (including those members who work from their home computers), no
immediate action is needed.

available on IE9 and OnBase compatibility.
