MAPAL GAZETTE Ms. Baldwin, Mr. Arquist and Mrs. Stone Editors December 2015 Principally Speaking Greetings Parents, Guardians, Students, Community and Staff! December is finally here. For many of our students it is a time of rejoicing and celebrating for the holiday break starts on the 23rd! Not all people celebrate in the same way on the same day. In fact, here is a list of some of the holidays celebrated this month; Christmas Day (Christian),Kwanzaa (African American), Three Kings Day/Epiphany (Christian), Saturnalia (Pagan), Eid al-Fitr (Muslim), Ramadan (Muslim), Saint Nicholas Day (Christian), Hanukkah (Jewish), Fiesta of Our Lady of Guadalupe (Mexican), Omisoka (Japanese), St. Lucia Day (Swedish), Yule (Pagan) and Boxing Day (Australian, Canadian, English, and Irish). Each celebration brings its own traditions. It is a wonderful opportunity for each of us to learn about customs that differ from our own. It truly doesn’t matter what holiday we celebrate, what matters is that we take the time to share, give thanks, and appreciate all that we do have. In addition, please make sure you take the time to rest, we have a lot of exciting work to do in the New Year. “December, being the last month of the year, cannot help but make us think of what is to come.” ― Fennel Hudson, A Meaningful Life - Fennel's Journal - No. 1 Happy Holidays! When asked what she likes about herself, she replied, “I like that I’m tall. I also like that I am smart. I really like it when I enter a room and people surround me because of my good attitude!” La’Caila says that she likes her teachers here at EMAPs. She said that what she hates are bullies. La’Caila said she has grown up with two role models, her sister and her brother. Her sister is 16 years old and her name is Jabria. She is her role model because of the way she always stands up for what is right. Her big brother, Aaron, is 22 years old. He is her role model because he is always standing up for her. He looks out for her and helps to calm things down. When you see La’Caila, take time to congratulate her!!!!!
