Head Coach- Richard Bowie Already achieving immediate success with the nationally recognized ASA women’s tennis team, Head Coach, Richard Bowie, will look to do the same with the men’s team in their first season ever as program. Coach Bowie has not wasted any time turning the ASA Women’s Tennis Team into one of the best squads in the nation. Bowie designed a schedule of matches against some of the best teams in the nation in order to gain immediate recognition as a national power. Along with a strong recruiting class including international and local products, Bowie was able to do just that. In only its first season as a program, the Lady Avengers finished the 2010 season ranked 7th nationally. ASA boasts the 11th ranked singles player in the nation in freshman Tetiana Kovalska, and the #2 doubles team in the nation consisting of Kovalska and Brooklyn native, Soizette Simmons. With the conclusion of the NJCAA Women’s National Championships, the team would come home with these impressive rankings, as well as three Junior College All-Americans. Again, a great feat for a first year program. Coach Bowie was hired in the Spring of 2009 to become ASA’s first ever Head Women’s Tennis coach. Bowie brings an extensive history in the game of tennis for someone his age. Born in Jamaica, Coach Bowie played his high school tennis locally in New York City where he was a prep standout. He then went on to play tennis in college at NCAA Division I Temple University. Coach Bowie has over nine years of coaching experience and currently works with several top juniors here in NY. Bowie's knowledge of the sport of tennis will help nurture a very young program and aid with the development of ASA players. His goal is to create a strong line up and move his players through the ranks and produce ASA studentathletes that will be assets to their future 4-year college and universities.
