Progression – Students will be required to log onto my school web page to complete two assignments, one skill builder from the “Progressive Worksheets.” When they finish, they are to ask the teacher for the teacher handbook to check their answers and send the teacher a clarifying question if they do not understand why they did not get questions in their exercise correct. Reflection – Students will write a three paragraph reflective writing piece that addresses how the year has gone for them so far in English 8: what did they think of the novel? Are there things that were taught that they still are not sure they know well yet? What do they like least about English 8 and what do they like most about English 8? What would they like individual assistance with learning in the poetry unit? What are we doing? Inquiry/Research – The curriculum requires that students be given the opportunity to investigate, through non-fiction literature, details specific to the information presented in the unit. This novel unit was set in the 1960s in a world of adolescent drug and alcohol abuse, poverty, gangs, racism, and hippies. Investigate further on your own during this period. Possible topics :LSD history and sideeffects, the hippie movement, The Black Panthers, or do the webquest— ◦ go to Mr. Logan’s webpage, click “progressive worksheets” ◦ click SE Hinton Webquest ◦ Follow the directions printed there What are we doing? ◦ If you have had your Inquiry/Research Day – share the results of your webquest.Your next step is to create a Prezi or animoto presentation to share what you learned with Mr. Logan and the class. ◦ If you have not had your Inquiry/Research Day Yet – log into Google drive and share your “ending” reflection with all members of your group and allow editing. Peer edit together each assignment, one student at a time until the group has collectively read each other’s responses. ◦ If there is time for another round of peer sharing, share your “newsweek” assignments.Your next group day will be writing conferencing with Mr. Logan. ◦ Go to Progressive Worksheets – choose ”In the News” directions, effective 10-28-2013. These are your directions for next cycle’s news story. They are due on your next peer share day and will be saved as keyword “newsweek2.” What are we doing? Conference – This cycle’s conference will be time to share the “Wanted” posters, your “ending” reflection, and your “newsweek” assignments with Mr. Logan for feedback. Mr. Logan will also share with you how short writing assignments will be GRADED from now on. Extra Credit Promised To receive half credit for your missed answers on a quiz, you must do the following. Show me, in your notebook, a page labeled “Quiz Corrections.” Below the heading, include the following: 1. The question you missed 2. The correct answer 3. The date of the notes where the answer was given to you in advance (you can find that be going to “Logan Logic 2014” on my webpage). 4. A sentence explaining how you chose the wrong answer and how you intend to prevent this error in the future.
