Course Rationale:
In Acting 11/12 students will explore various aspects of creative drama and theatre. Through scene study and other forms of presentation, students will develop abilities to be creative, communicative, observant, interpretive and expressive. In addition, students will develop their understanding of the audition process, script writing, set design, stage direction and performance.
It will be essential that students participate in class assignments, group projects, planning and presenting performances within the class and school community. Students in this class will experience theatre and film in an open, safe, fun, and comfortable environment.

Course Objectives:
Drama is a way of sharing and understanding traditions, perspectives, cultures, and worldviews.
Ideas and beliefs conveyed in a drama production can effect change in the actor, audience, and environment.
Apply the creative process of exploration, selection, combination, refinement, and reflection to performance
Describe the characteristics of a successful performance
Demonstrate voice and movement elements that are appropriate to performance
Demonstrate appropriate strategies to develop characters
Analyze how performance elements are used in theatre production to achieve specific purposes and reach specific audiences.
Demonstrate a commitment to the rehearsal performance process

Electronic Device Policy:
Electronic devices, including cell phones, are only permitted to be used during class time for educational purposes. Students are permitted to use their electronic device before school, at break, and at lunch in the
MPX or outside. At all other times and locations (including the hallway) student use of electronic devices is forbidden. Students are not permitted to use their electronic device at any other time unless permission has been granted by a teacher. Any student seen in procession of an electronic device who has not been granted permission, will have it confiscated by the school’s Administration who will contact the student’s parents/guardian to come to the school and meet with the school’s Administration and collect the electronic device.
