Senior Newsletter: You will receive a Senior Newsletter in your homeroom periodically during the first semester. Read it carefully! You will find lots of information and reminders about deadlines to help keep you on track this year. College Information Night for Senior Parents: Please tell your parents about the College Information Night for Senior Parents on Thurs. September 22, 2011. The program will begin at 6:30 PM and will be held in Alumni Hall. Guidance Appointments: Guidance counselors will begin meeting individually with all seniors very soon to discuss college plans. If you have something that you wish to talk over sooner, make an appointment with your counselor. College Fairs: 1) The College Fair at McCoy Stadium sponsored by the College Planning Center of Rhode Island and the Pawtucket Red Sox will be held on Wednesday, September 20, 2011 from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM. One Hundred (100) colleges will be represented. 2) The College Fair at UMASS-Dartmouth (Tripp Athletic & Fitness Center) will be held on Sunday, September 11, 2011 from 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM. Approximately 200 colleges will be represented. 3) The Performing Visual Arts College Fair will be held at the Boston Center for the Arts Cyclorama on Wednesday, November 2, 2011 from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM. 4) 34th Annual RIAAO College Fair at the Community College of Rhode Island, Warwick, RI on Saturday, October 15, 2011 from 1:00 PM – 3:30 PM. (See the list below). If you are interested in attending a presentation, you must follow these steps: Be selective – you do not want to miss too many classes. Sign up and get a pass the day before with Mrs. Calderone in the Guidance Department or see your guidance counselor. You must sign up the day before – NO EXCEPTIONS. Get permission from your teacher to miss class – Do NOT come to the presentation with an unsigned pass. All college presentations are held in the Guidance Office. Gates Millennium Scholars Program: Apply at www.gmsp.org. Students are eligible to apply if they: Are African American, American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian Pacific Islander American or Hispanic American. Are a citizen, national or legal permanent resident of the United States. Have attained a cumulative high school GPA of 3.3 on an unweighted 4.0 scale or have earned a GED. Will enroll for the first time at a U.S. located, accredited college or university in the fall of 2012 as a full-time, degree-seeking, first-year student. Have demonstrated leadership abilities through participation in community service, extracurricular or other activities. Meet the Federal Pell Grant criteria. Have completed and submitted all three required forms: the student application (Nominee Personal Information Form), and evaluation of the student’s record (Nomination Form) and an n evaluation of the student’s community service and leadership activities (Recommender Form).
