Boston Community Leadership Academy What is dual enrollment for high school students? Dual enrollment is a program that allows high school students to simultaneously earn college credit that will also count as high school credit. Dual Enrollment courses offer an opportunity to take challenging courses and gain a jump start to a college education. Dual enrollment courses are college courses. Almost all dual enrollment courses are free. Why should your student participate in the Dual Enrollment Program? Obtain college credit that can be transferred to many colleges and universities Take a course that is not offered in high school Explore potential college majors and learn more about the college experience Improve your student’s high school transcript Enrich college applications Gain confidence in the ability to succeed in college Save money and time in college. How to help your child participate in the Dual Enrollment Program. 1. Be sure we have your correct telephone number and Email address. 2. Sign the dual enrollment permission form. 3. Check with your junior or senior year student to see if they have information for dual enrollment. Please review the information with your student. 4. Have your student speak with Mr. Johnson, Ms. O’Donnell, Mr. Zinkowski, Ms. Julmisse, or Ms. Brittany Wheaton-Calloway to register for dual enrollment classes as they become available. You can also call or Email us with any questions. We will send you information about the application deadlines for the different colleges. 5. Most applications require some parent information. Colleges may require the student to provide proof of citizenship such as a birth certificate or permanent resident card. 6. Some colleges require students to take the Accuplacer college placement test (English and math) to help determine which class would be best the best match for your student. 7. Check with your student to be sure she/he has registered for a class by the deadline. 8. Attend a college orientation session with your student. Courses offered are generally required English and Math classes. Students who pass a basic course may be able to take additional more specialized courses in another semester. *Example: Students who have passed BCLA computer science and BCLA Advanced Algebra may be able to take a computer science course at Wentworth.
