Job Description Job title: Department/School: Grade: Location: IT Trainer Computing Services 6 University of Bath Job purpose The IT Trainer will be responsible for the creation and delivery of training resources, and for contributing to the management of the department’s training portfolio. Reporting to the Service Manager (IT Literacy), the IT Trainer will design, create, update and deliver a range of IT Training material for Computing Services staff and to the wider staff and student body. They will evaluate the effectiveness of generic and bespoke training content and make recommendations on the most effective options for professional and personal development. They will also assist the Service Manager (IT Literacy) in the scheduling and administration of courses, liaising with external training providers when necessary and co-ordinating internal resources such as training rooms and course bookings to ensure the smooth running of training events. Source and nature of management provided Service Manager (IT Literacy). Staff management responsibility None, although the post-holder may be asked to supervise trainees and casual staff. Special conditions Standard University business hours are 9.00 am – 5.20 pm Monday to Thursday and 9.00 am – 5.10 pm Friday. The post-holder may occasionally be required to undertake duties outside of standard University hours including evenings or weekends where the business need arises. Human Resources Page 1 12/05/2014 Main duties and responsibilities 1 Contribute to the creation and maintenance of a catalogue of learning and development resources. 2 Prepare or customise and deliver learning activities to a variety of audiences using a number of different methods (e.g. one-to-one training, remote desktop sessions, “classroom” group learning, facilitated self-learning, etc.) 3 Design, create, develop, customise and maintain learning solution content and resources to deliver agreed outcomes. Assist with design, configuration and testing of learning environments. 4 Analyse the effectiveness of courses and other learning interventions and modify or develop them accordingly 5 Manage training resources including course materials, rooms, course bookings, and external training bookings. 6 Contribute to the development and implementation of strategies, guidelines, programmes, and policies to meet the requirements of Computing Services strategic objectives, in consultation with internal and external stakeholders. 7 Perform routine and non-routine assessments of knowledge and experience using specified methods and according to specified standards. 8 Contribute to the department’s CPD framework tracking technical and behavioural competencies to ensure that technical teams are able to service the changing requirements of the University 9 Communicate effectively acting as a key liaison with customers, team members and colleagues across the University. 10 Update and control training records, including attainment of accreditations and qualifications. 11 Represent IT Training across Computing Services and the wider University identifying where new projects or services have a likely training requirement. 12 Design student and staff-facing questionnaires and surveys In addition to University provided training and development, you will undertake sufficient personal and professional development as required, ensuring skills and knowledge are up to date so that the role is performed to the required level. You will from time to time be required to undertake other duties of a similar nature as reasonably required by your line manager. Some occasional travelling may be required, for example to user groups or conferences.
