TOTAL
Exams (60%): Each exam is two parts—Theory and Hands-on. A ScanTron form is needed for the Theory section
of each exam. In each Hands-on section you complete specific tasks (similar to the Tutorial Hands-on and
Homework assignments for this class) and perform operations on a computer file that is provided by the professor.
Exams are not open book, open notes, or a group effort. Exams are an evaluation of your individual knowledge
and skills acquired by attending and preparing for this class.
Homework Assignments (40%): Homework assignments are typically completed outside of the class session.
Case Homework Assignments are due the day of the exam. Review Homework Assignments are due weekly.
Assignments are printed and include student name, assignment chapter and number. Specific instructions
will be given first week of class. It is very important that all assignments be completed before the exam
day for that section. Homework assignments help the student to be totally prepared for the exam and show
mastery of the material. Therefore late homework defeats the purpose of the assignments given to master
the material.
Late Assignments Policy: Homework not turned in on the due date will be graded minus 15% of the total points
obtainable (100 points obtainable) per class meeting. Late Homework Assignments will not be accepted two weeks
past the due date.
Make-up Exam Policy: Students are expected to take each exam on the scheduled days. Make-up exams are
not guaranteed, but are granted at the discretion of the instructor. If make-up exams are allowed, it is
necessary to make arrangements with the instructor prior to the scheduled exam date. Need for make-up exams
will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis not to exceed more than one. NOTE: There is NO make-up exam
for the final exam.
Course Goals: This course is designed to provide the student with a working knowledge of techniques for the
Microsoft Excel 2007 Proficient User level and the Microsoft Excel 2007 Expert User level. Focus will be on the
certification skill activities for MOS certification listed in the course textbook.
Course Requirements and Expectations: Each student will spend time each week outside of class preparing for
this class by reading ahead, completing homework assignments, reviewing the hands-on assignments and other
work as assigned by the instructor.
Other Information:

The skills that you will gain as you successfully complete this course will be those that reflect Microsoft's Proficient
level and Expert level of certification for the Excel 2003 product.
You should prepare yourself by reading the assigned material as stated in this chapter topic outline before each class
session.
The amount of time that a student will spend outside of class can vary widely from one individual to the next. Be aware
that this class is somewhat more rigorous and demanding than a casual home user study course.
Make yourself aware of the open labs that are available to you. You need to note the times and locations of these labs. If
you do not have a home computer with the required software, plan to spend consistent, quality time in the open labs.
These open labs are provided for your convenience; use them.
