What’s the difference between scholarly journal articles and reports?
Scholarly journal articles (sometimes called peer-reviewed or refereed articles) are the most
important sources of information for your assignments. They are written by researchers from
universities and research institutes around the world. Before they can be published in a journal they
are rigorously scrutinised by experts in the same research field to ensure that the methodology, data
analysis and conclusions are robust.
Report literature is not usually scholarly but it can still be important and authoritative. It provides
useful data on countries, commodities, industries and markets for students of business and
economics. Reports are published by governments, international organisations , specialist
companies who gather business intelligence and by research institutes.
