What Is CLEP? The College Board’s College-Level
Examination Program (CLEP) has been the most widely
used credit-by-examination program for more than 40
years. It is accepted by 2,900 colleges and
universities and is given in more than 1,700 test
centers and on military bases.
Foreign Language Placement Testing is available
for Italian and Latin
CLEP allows students of varying ages and backgrounds
to demonstrate their mastery of college-level material
and earn college credit. It offers 33 exams in five
subject areas, covering material taught in courses that
students generally take in their first two years of
college
On-Campus proctoring for students who need to
make up an exam. We also assist the Office of
Accessibility in giving exams to students who
need extended time, or a “distraction reduced”
space. Proctor sheets are required for these
exams.
Correspondence Testing is proctored by our
staff for other universities.
Career Testing is available for students seeking
career counseling.

Which CLEP Exams Does The
University of Akron Accept?
Colleges' CLEP policies differ.
Different colleges grant credit for
different exams. Also, a college
often grants the same amount of
credit to students who earn
satisfactory scores on the CLEP
examination as it grants to students
who successfully complete the
related course. Check with your
advisor if you have questions about
the acceptance of CLEP exams.
What is a passing score?
At UA, a score of 50 and above is
considered passing, except for
foreign language exams that must
have a score of 55-65 to pass out
of the beginning 2 semesters and a
score above 66 to pass out of the 2
intermediate level courses.
