That's because taking these exams can earn you college credit for things you already know. Most exams require appointments. Fees are sometimes associated with the various exams. The College Board’s College-Level Examination Program (CLEP) has been the most widely used credit-by-examination program for more than 40 years. It is accepted by 2,900 colleges and universities and is given in more than 1,700 test centers and on military bases. Foreign Language Placement Testing is available for Italian and Latin CLEP allows students of varying ages and backgrounds to demonstrate their mastery of college-level material and earn college credit. It offers 33 exams in five subject areas, covering material taught in courses that students generally take in their first two years of college On-Campus proctoring for students who need to make up an exam. We also assist the Office of Accessibility in giving exams to students who need extended time, or a “distraction reduced” space. Proctor sheets are required for these exams. Correspondence Testing is proctored by our staff for other universities. Career Testing is available for students seeking career counseling. Get College Credit Speak with your Department Advisor to determine the number of CLEP credits that can count toward your degree program. Earning CLEP credit can benefit you in a number of ways. The Residual ACT is an entry exam like the National ACT but the scores are good only at the University of Akron. Save Money If you earn college credit by taking a CLEP exam, you can save thousands of dollars in tuition costs and fees, student-loan fees, and book costs. A CLEP exam costs only $80, while the average cost of a college course is $700. National Testing Programs are administered at our institution and include the ACT, OKAP, MPRE, SAT, LSAT, and GRE (subject examinations). Save Time CLEP credits make it possible for you to place out of required basic classes and jump right into more-challenging advanced courses. Placing out of required or elective classes can also free up time in college for you to do things like: Take other elective classes in areas of interest. Take on a double major, a minor area of specialization or two degrees at once. Experience studying abroad. Participate in an internship or co-op work program. The Millers Analogy Test (MAT) is available daily. DSST is available for college credit. Speak with your Advisor to determine whether or not you are eligible for DSST credit. Learning Disorder/ADHD Assessments are available for a number of learning problems. Which CLEP Exams Does The University of Akron Accept? Colleges' CLEP policies differ. Different colleges grant credit for different exams. Also, a college often grants the same amount of credit to students who earn satisfactory scores on the CLEP examination as it grants to students who successfully complete the related course. Check with your advisor if you have questions about the acceptance of CLEP exams. What is a passing score? At UA, a score of 50 and above is considered passing, except for foreign language exams that must have a score of 55-65 to pass out of the beginning 2 semesters and a score above 66 to pass out of the 2 intermediate level courses.
