The University of Connecticut, Center for Career Development On-Campus Internship Position Criteria Clearly indicate the following information when drafting an internship position D Full Department Information ▪ ▪ ▪ Contact Information for general questions (name, telephone number, email) Location - clarify campus and building Department website Department Description ▪ ▪ ▪ Explain the overall department’s purpose and population being served Include information about the area within the department, hosting the internship Mention points not clearly or easily found on the website Roles and Responsibilities/Duties/Position Title Outlines a general overview of the internship Identifies what tasks and projects intern will complete directly related to the department Indicates which division or office where the student will intern Include hours, work schedule if known, location, etc. NOTE: Responsibilities not to include more than 25% clerical or similar type work NOTE: Student would not report, directly or indirectly, to a family member Learning Experiences Offered by the Department ▪ ▪ Include structured and planned learning opportunities not connected to the assigned tasks. These educational elements distinguish a part-time job from an internship. Examples are listed (these are not an exhaustive list; other ideas are encouraged) o Structured time(s) to meet other interns and staff, and discuss topics of interest in the organization, industry, professionalism, etc. o Suggested readings related to the industry, with time set up to discuss it with supervisor, mentor, intern coordinator, etc. o Lunch and Learn seminars: guest speakers from industry or university o A project that will only benefit the intern and possibly time for the intern to present on the findings or the internship experience, to members of the organization and/or other interns, if applicable o Opportunities to sit in on meetings or decision-making events unrelated to the direct tasks at hand Experience and Qualifications ▪ State required & preferred items o Ex.
