Job Description Job title Team Band Reporting to Management responsibility Director Investments Venture Capital Solutions 4 MD Venture Capital Solutions Yes Purpose of the job To provide high level input and support across the range of Venture Capital Solutions activities. With lead responsibility for managing out a portfolio of direct investments. Main duties Managing and seeking to exit from a portfolio of direct investments that have been made under various, now closed venture capital and co-investment funds. This is a mixed bag of investments, some will need to be realised for value and others tidied up in a way that ensures high standards of propriety and value for money for the Government as an investor. Acting as a member of the fund investments team making investments under the Enterprise Capital Fund and VC Catalyst programmes. This will involve working collaboratively with the Director with lead responsibility for new fund investments, providing challenge and support. Working Closely with the Director Portfolio on the closure of historic funds owned by the Department for Business, ensuring that proper value is placed on any remaining assets and particularly where these may transfer to in-house management. Supporting the MD Venture Solutions on ad-hoc projects as required. Knowledge and experience Experience of managing SME investments is an advantage but candidates might also offer transferable skills from working in an SME financing environment. Experience of working with the Public Sector is desirable Knowledge of SME financing issues is essential Experience of dealing with stakeholders at a senior level Experience of working collaboratively as a senior part of a larger team Experience of managing staff Experience of operating as a Non-executive Director is an advantage. Internal and external stakeholders BBB colleagues at all levels, senior level contacts in Local Enterprise Partnerships and Local Authorities, Venture Fund Managers and Business Angels, and senior Whitehall and European Stakeholders. Budgets / fund size / scope of investments The Business Bank is investing at a rate in excess of £120m per year into new venture funds.
