I. Overview
• Beijing Foreign Studies University Library was founded in
1941, formerly known as Yan’an Foreign Languages School
Library.
• The library possesses 1,2 million books, covering 49
languages, including Chinese, English, French, Russian,
German, Japanese, Spanish, etc. Besides, there are 280,000
copies of e-books, 1,100+ Chinese and foreign language
periodicals, more than 11,000 pieces of various audio-visual
materials, nearly 26,000 foreign language full-text e-journals,
50+ Chinese and foreign language databases. With an
outstanding collection of scholarly materials in linguistics,
literature and cultural studies, we endeavor to preserve
materials of law, economics, journalism, management and
international relations, to support the university’s progress in
teaching and research towards new directions.
• The library adopts the advanced ALEPH500 library
automatic management system, realizing multilingual
document cataloguing and retrieval.
• An interlibrary loan service is available to all
members of the university. This service seeks to
provide access to collections held at National Library,
Shanghai Library, and more than 70 university
libraries in Beijing, including Peking University
Library, Renmin University of China Library, etc.
Besides, the library provides the CASHL and BALIS
foreign language periodical article delivery service.
• For the convenience of our teachers and students offcampus to use the e-resources in the library, the VPN
remote access system has been installed as well.
• Mail / SMS alerts (for free, registration needed).
• This library was put into use in early June, 2013. It
has 6 floors, 23 thousand square meters, with more
than 2000 seats for the students to study.
• Research rooms: 18

• Showroom, Coffee shop
• Wi-Fi covered
• Self-service system: self-circulation, self-return, self
print/copy/scan
• E-reading area (80 places)
• Multi-media space

II. About printed-books
Do I have the rights to borrow
books from the library?
• -Yes. All of you have the rights.
• -Activation in group (teachers
included):
• Agreement signed by the International
Business School (one for a group);
• Personal BFSU card with photo on it;
• ￥1000 cash pledge - returnable;
• Submit to the library by a person in
charge.
