Mission Statement: The mission of the Physical and Health Education Department is to encourage, inspire, and motivate students to gain
a deeper knowledge of and appreciation for physical activity and wellness as life-long endeavors.
Freshman Physical Education is a required year-long course. The curriculum emphasis fitness, wellness and nutrition.
These activities include but are not limited to swimming, self-defense, functional fitness, team sports & individual sports.
The freshman curriculum also includes units in human sexuality (sex education), health relationships, social/emotional health,
depression, suicide, bullying and drug and alcohol education.
Essential Question: What skills, activities and knowledge can you gain to positively foster short and long-term fitness and wellness?
Students are expected to learn concepts associated with fitness, wellness, nutrition, safety, civility, and more.
In Physical Education the majority of the student’s grade is based on effective effort during physical activity. Consequently, if you are
not in class, you may not receive your daily activity points. When a student is absent from PE class the student has the responsibility to
communicate with their PE teacher concerning make-up activity points, written work or tests missed during the time of the absence.
(See pilot for school policy)

PHYSICAL EDUCATION EXTRA CREDIT- Students may earn points participating in cardiovascular exercise during AM Support. Up to
10 points per day may be earned. (Students’ may not use this time to remove absences.)
NO CREDIT SCHOOL POLICY
The No Credit (N/C) policy is in effect as outlined in the ETHS Pilot. (Make-up PE does not remove absences.)
TARDINESS IN PHYSICAL EDUCATION
Tardiness is unacceptable. You are expected to be in class on time. A warning tone will ring one minute before the start of class. When
the second bell rings announcing the end of the passing period, you should be in the locker room. From that point you have five
minutes to change and be in the posted facility. If you arrive after that time, but within the first five minutes of class, you will be marked
tardy (T). If you arrive after five minutes you will be marked Unauthorized Tardy (UT). Five UTs in class will result in a consequence
from the dean. Additional sets of 5 UTs will increase the consequence. See below.
Unauthorized Tardy – Consequences
• 5 UTs – extended detention or 1 day inside suspension
• 10 UTs – extended detentions and/or 1 day inside suspension
• 15 UTs – 2 days inside suspension; dean will refer student to Student Services Team
• 20 UTs – 3 days of inside suspension; Referral to Intervention Advisory Board
After 20 UTs, tardiness will be considered chronic and you will forfeit credit for the class.
If you arrive beyond 15 minutes of class, without a legitimate pass, you will be marked Extreme Tardy (ET). This absence will count
toward NC.
PHYSICAL EDUCATION RESOURCE CENTER (PERC)
Students who are unable to participate in physical activity due to a medical excuse will report to the resources center (G180) during
their Physical Education class. The quality of a students’ work will be used to determine the Physical Education grade (guidelines
available). The PERC will also be used to make up any written test.
Students who are not dressed for physical activity will be sent to the PERC (G180) to complete a written assignment. The student not
dressed for PE will receive a zero for the day. If this student refuse to complete the PERC assignment or do not report to PERC, they
could lose up to -20pts; this will affect your grade significantly.
MEDICALS
Students with a medical excuse from their doctor must report to their teacher with the doctor’s note. After the teacher signs the note,
the student should go to the PE office to register the note and then to the Health Service where the note is officially processed. Days of
non-participation, due to a doctor’s excuse, are not counted (or are waived) in computing a student’s grade, although students may
have to make-up missed written work. Students on medical should still attend the classroom portion of class. A parent note may
excuse a student from participation for a maximum of five days. The student will follow the rules for the PERC. Student should attend
class until their teacher signs the medical.
LOCKER ROOM SECURITY

During class, an assigned long locker is available for locking up street clothes, book
bags, etc.

For security reasons, lockers are not to be shared.

Locks approved by ETHS safety are required.

Secure your personal items at all times.
.
SAFETY/ CARE OF FACILITIES
Safety is an essential part of Physical Education. Students’ must use common sense regarding safety issues and also observe all
safety rules set forth by their teacher. We are fortunate to have excellent facilities and equipment. Please take care of the facilities and
equipment; when things are destroyed it negatively impacts all ETHS students.
