E&EC department, IIT Kharagpur is one of the best
centers for learning, research & development in the
country. The specialization of VIPES continues this
legacy. It is one of the oldest postgraduate
programmes offered by the department. The
uniqueness of this course lies in the emphasis given to
the modern fields of Electronics and Computer
Science that includes Embedded Systems, Image &
Video processing and Computer Networking.
As these fields are where currently the action is, the
department has made the best efforts to make the
course up-to-date and close to the expectations of the
current industry requirements. The Courses and Labs
listed alongside give a glimpse of this.
The departmental faculties are well-known for their
contributions in the areas of Embedded System
Design, Image and Video processing, Computer
Networking, VLSI, Digital Signal Processing, etc.
Pioneering work has and is being done in these areas
through various projects and collaboration from
Ministry of Defense, Dept. of Electronics & Dept. of
Science and Technology, Ministry of Human Resource
Development, European Commission, Webel, Tata
Consultancy, Intel, Nortel, Texas instruments, etc. &
various overseas universities.
