Purpose
The toolkit is a tool to use to educate employers regarding the types of accommodations that
can be made for individuals with disabilities in the workplace. The toolkit provides
Massachusetts Rehabilitation Commission (MRC) employment specialists with information they
need to describe assistive technology to employers. Employment specialists and other MRC
staff can also use the toolkit to develop their knowledge of assistive technology solutions. The
toolkit includes advanced information so that if MRC staff, or employers, has a need for more
details on a product or topic, they can use the toolkit to find that information.
The kit includes sample devices and 4 binders with information. There is an information binder
that includes information and resources for employers and MRC staff. There are also 3
presentation binders that flip into desktop easels. These 3 binders provide presentation
information in the areas of assistive technology for physical access, ergonomics, memory and
organization, vision and hearing. The presentation binders also include information on
employer tax credits and work place accommodations.
MRC staff can use the kit to demonstrate simple, low cost accommodations that can be made
when a job has been identified for an individual with a disability. The kit can also be used for
general presentations to employer groups or other community groups.
