Mr. White Khalifa Falamarzi 9D Polymers are macro molecules Repeated units of monomers make Polymers Polymers are huge molecules When polymers are broken down they give monomers. Biological polymers are the polymers formed in plants and animals. Carbohydrates, Proteins and fats are the best examples of biological polymers. Biological polymers can also be broken down into monomers. Carbohydrates: Are polymers made of glucose monomers. Carbohydrates are made of the elements (Carbon, Hydrogen and Oxygen). Proteins: Are polymers made of the monomer Amino acids. In Addition to (Carbon Hydrogen and Oxygen they also contain Nitrogen. Fats: Fats are polymers made of the monomers Glycerol and fatty acids. Fats also contain ( Carbon, Hydrogen and Oxygen) but the amount of oxygen is much less in comparison to Carbohydrates. A balanced diet should contain the right amount of carbohydrates, proteins and fats. An excess of any of these polymers will have serious consequences on our health. Among these polymers lipids (fats) are more dangerous to health when consumed in excess. The saturated fat can clog the blood vessels and capillaries leading to an increase in blood pressure and there by causing heart attacks or heart related diseases. People should be aware of a balanced diet and they should know exactly what they eat and what can happen when they consume excess of one particular kind of food. We should be selective in the food that we choose. We should go for food items that are rich in fibers. Adding more fruits and vegetables to our diet is a good practice. When we choose a food item from the shelves we should ensure that it contains less or no saturated fats or trans fat that are harmful for health. Above all a health diet and good exercise helps us to stay healthier for a longer period.
