Poznań, August 2 nd 2013 Press Release TRANSATLANTYK Festival Poznań 2013 has set sail on its next journey! Poznan, August 2-9, 2013 On Friday, August 2nd, 2013, a festive opening gala will begin the third edition of the TRANSATLANTYK Festival Poznań. Once again, this international celebration of film and music, founded and directed by Jan AP Kaczmarek, will attract crowds form Poland and abroad to Poznan. For eight days of the festival, you will have a chance to see over 150 films, take part in several dozen workshops, Master Classes, special screenings, discussion panels and unique music concerts. Extraordinary attractions are awaiting participants of this year's Transatlantyk, including film screenings and dinners at the Culinary Cinema, Mobile Cinema Skoda or extremely popular screenings of the section, Cinema in Bed. There will also be composition contests attracting young composers from all around the world to the capital of Wielkopolska. This year, YOKO ONO is a special guest of the festival and will be presented with the TRANSATLANTYK Glocal Hero Award. As in previous years, TRANSATLANTYK Festival Poznań will begin with a meeting on the Adam Mickiewicz Square. There, on August 2nd, at 6:30 PM, Mademoiselle Carmel will lead The Big Drumming session against GMO's and the extinction of bees. Everyone is welcome to participate, all it takes is coming to the Adam Mickiewicz Square, picking up a special rattle, and then playing together with the music guests of the drumming session, Drum Duo and Fantasy Brass Octet. Festival Opening Gala will begin on Friday, August 2nd, at 7:30 PM in the Concert Hall of the Adam Mickiewicz University. Gloria Campaner, one of the world's top pianists of the young generation, the winner of the IJ Paderewski International Piano Competition will be the music star of the gala and will perform the Piano Concerto No. 2 in C minor, Op. 18 by Sergei Rachmaninoff, with the accompaniment of Gorzow Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of Monica Wolińska. On stage, beside Gloria Campaner, we will see one of the most outstanding Polish pianist, Leszek Możdżer, actress and singer, Julia Pietrucha and Nick Cooper, cellist. Film part of the Festival includes over 150 films that will be presented in 21 sections. The most famous titles include awarded the Golden Bear in Berlin "The Child's Pose," by Calin Peter Netzer, "Pieta," by Kim Ki-Duk, winner of the Golden Lion at the last edition of the Venice Film Festival and the film “Heli,” by Amat Escalante awarded at Cannes for Best Director. At the festival, in addition to the section Panorama, the review of the most import_ant world premieres of the last months, you will be able to enjoy a retrospective of Stanley Kubrick, reviews of contemporary German and Scandinavian cinema or selection of the best productions of the Sundance Film Festival. Film screenings will be held in Multikino 51, Muza Theatre and the New Pałacowe Theatre in CK Zamek. Also, the TRANSATLANTYK Festival invites everyone to the screenings of the Culinary Cinema, an incredible feast, combining the 10th Muse and culinary arts. Each of the film screenings, which will be held August 3-7 in Multikino 51, will end with a dinner at the TRANSATLANTYK Restaurant, specially arranged for this occasion in the park next to Multikino 51. All dinners will relate to the themes of the presented films. Following chefs will be in charge of the menus, Tomasz Trąbski (Concordia Taste), Witek Iwański (Hotel Narvil Conference & Spa), Jakub Adamczyk (Winosfera), Dawid Łagowski (Mierzęcin Palace), and the combined forces of the eight chefs associated with the portal Wszystko Dla Kucharzy (Michał Kuter, Roman Kosmalski, Miłosz Kowalski, Stanisław Bobowski, Rafał Godziemski, Grzegorz Olejarka, Artur Skotarczyk, Andrzej Truchlewski). Once again, Thomas Struck of the International Film Festival in Berlin is the curator of the Culinary Cinema. This year, integral part of the TRANSATLANTYK’s film program, the Cinema in Bed which is organized in partnership with VOX, will take place on the Freedom Square (Plac Wolności). The space will have 60 projectors and double beds prepared for the occasion. Screenings will be held daily, August 3-7. Free screenings will take place at 8:30 PM and at midnight, paid screenings (with complimentary catering) at 10:15 PM. This is not the only open-air section of the festival. As part of the Mobile Cinema Skoda, August 3-7, road movies will be presented in five districts of Poznan (Jeżyce, Wilda, Nowe Miasto, Grunwald, City Center). Admission to all screenings of the Mobile Cinema Skoda is free. Traditionally, TRANSATLANTYK invites young composers from all around the world to participate in two film music competitions, TRANSATLANTYK Instant Composition Contest and TRANSATLANTYK Film Music Competition which will both be held on August 6th and 7th at the Polski Theatre in Poznan. To participate in the competition struggle, you have to be younger than 35 by August 10th, 2013. Prizes for the winners exceed fifty thousand USD and are sponsored by the Foundation Transatlantyk and Raiffeisen POLBANK. This year, there will be an additional, special prize for one of the 10 finalists of the TRANSATLANTYK Film Music Competition, a contract with Sony ATV publishing. Jan AP Kaczmarek is the artistic director of both composition competitions. As is previous years, the TRANSATLANTYK offers the opportunity to participate in free lectures and seminars, MASTER CLASSES, on the widely understood art of filmmaking. This year, the faculty will include Marco Beltrami, Petr Zelenka, David MacMillan, Dave Porter, Xawery Żulawski, Marian Dziędziel, Daniel Bloom and Jacek Borcuch. The meetings will be held at the CK ZAMEK and the Rozbitek Institute. YOKO ONO, artist and peace activist, will be a special guest of this year's festival. On August 7th, on the stage of the AMU Concert Hall, she will perform a concert with THURSTON MOORE, leader of a cult but no longer existing band, Sonic Youth. A day later, during the Closing Gala of the Festival, Yoko Ono will receive the TRANSATLANTYK Glocal Hero Award, the Festival presents this award every year for local activities that affect global change. Another import_ant event will be the anniversary concert celebrating the 35 years of existence of the most famous American record label Varèse Sarabande, specializing in film music. The producer, Robert Townson will be the host of the evening and flutist, Sara Andon, will be a special guest. The concert will take place on August 4th at the Concert Hall of AMU. Eminent economist, Professor Jerzy Osiatyński, Wiktor Osiatyński, writer, lecturer and social activist and one of the most popular political commentators in the country, Jacek Żakowski will meet on August 3rd, at the CK Zamek (New Pałacowe Theatre) for a discussion panel "2013. Dirty thirteen. What is going on in here?" to talk about, among other things, what may happen as a result of the crisis that we are experiencing. The debate will start at 5:00 PM and admission is free. Also, among the guests of the TRANSATLANTYK, there will be film directors, Audrey Ewell, Aaron Aites, Jeremy Seifert, Martha Cunningham and Chad Hartigan, musical consultant Maggie Rodford, screenwriter Shem Bitterman, musician Tuur Florizoone, producers Larry Sanitsky and Zachary Matz, director Magdalena Łazarkiewicz, actress Weronika Rosati, actor Michal Żurawski and journalists Tomasz Raczek, Janusz Wróblewski, Jaroslaw Kuźniar, Wojciech Orliński and Edwin Bendyk. During the event, workshops of the School of Social Sciences will take place on the grounds of the Cinema in Bed, and on August 8th, in the tent of the Transatlantyk Restaurant, Pyszoty, cooking workshops for children will take place. In the Festival Club, which this year will be based in Przylądek Arkadia +1 (entrance from Ratajczaka 44 Street) every day, from 10:00 PM until 4:00 AM the guests will enjoy silent disco. Once again, Dj's of Poznan will take care of the music. On August 8th, there will be a special attraction waiting for the participants of the Festival, a concert of Christina Wood and Cicely Goulder from Kaleida duo. Festival Club has been equipped with innovative furniture by the company, NOTI. Following the main idea of the TRANSATLANTYK, admission to part of the festival events is free. The audience will be able to participate for free in selected film screenings in Multikino 51 and Muza Theatre, MASTER CLASSES, events in the Festival Club and the majority of the screenings at the Cinema in Bed. Also, TRANSATLANTYK Instant Composition Contest and TRANSATLANTYK Film Music Competition, which will be held on August 6th and 7th in Polski Theatre in Poznań, will be open to the public. Free screenings in Multikino 51 and Muza Theatre will be held in the section TRANSATLANTYK Docs and Eco, Season, Bike Movies and TRANSATLANTYK for Children. In order to participate in a film screening you must pick up a free pass in the box office of Multikino 51 or Muza Theatre (selected films of the section Docs) from 3:00 PM on the day prior to the screening, throughout the day of the screening until the start of the film. Until August 9th, at the box office of Multikino 51, tickets may be purchased for screenings in the section Panorama, Sundance at TRANSATLANTYK, Cinematic Journey of The Master: Stanley Kubrick, Road Cinema: Škoda.
