PROJECT ABSTRACT (PROVIDE A BRIEF DESCRIPTION AND PURPOSE FOR THIS PROJECT)
The plan is to mirror the system components (e.g. servers, network devices) used to run the aforementioned
systems located at the NMDGF Santa Fe building and place them at the Department of Information
Technology’s (DoIT) Simms building data center. The funds will purchase the hardware, software,
maintenance plans, and contract staff to configure the network components based on the design. If there is
an issue at either site such as a power outage, HVAC issue, data circuit/connectivity outage,
hardware/software failure; NMDGF Information Systems Division (ISD) will be able to switch operations
from one site to the other site and have the systems continue operating.
The benefits include significantly reducing the amount of systems outage time and allowing NMDGF,
public, and vendors the ability to continue the purchase/selling of hunting/fishing/trapping licenses by locals
and tourists so they can enjoy New Mexico natural resources. In addition, for vendors, people coming into
their store to purchase a license usually purchase other items and thus supporting New Mexico small
businesses and the overall New Mexico economy. From a NMDGF perspective, this will provide the public
assurance that we take their hunting/fishing/trapping pleasures along with their free time seriously and they
are able to buy and use a license when it is convenient for them. For NMDGF and the vendor relationships,
this will help keep these relationships solid and show NMDGF is here to help their business.

IT SYSTEM ANALYSIS (ON THIS DOCUMENT, OR AS AN ATTACHMENT, PROVIDE A SUMMARY
DESCRIPTION OF THE TECHNICAL ARCHITECTURE)
The scope of the project is the development of an alternate data site to operate our public facing
web applications and the upgrade of hardware to create an active-active cluster between the sites.
The sites will use Cisco UCS Blade servers connected to an EMC EMC VNXe3200 NAS.
VMWare vSphere and vCenter Ops Management suite will be used to virtualize the servers on the
blade servers. Network switches will be replaced with Cisco 3850 switches due to their age and
the McAfee Firewall will be replaced with a Cisco ASA 5525 router. The ASA 5525 will be
configured as a VPN also and replace our obsolete Juniper VPN.

The system upgrade and alternate data site is the base for all NMDGF systems and will not be
interfacing with them but providing their foundation.

TRANSITION TO OPERATIONS: (DESCRIBE AGENCY PLAN TO MIGRATE PROJECT SOLUTION TO PRODUCTION.
INCLUDE AGENCY
PLANS TO FUND AND MAINTAIN THIS PROJECT AFTER DEPLOYMENT. )
By using a multiple phase approach, as one site is being upgraded, the other site will provide operations.
Once the upgraded site is ready to go online, it will be bought online and failover and functionality will be
tested to validate it is performing properly. If not, it will be taken offline and corrections will be made. Upon
successful implementation, the upgraded site will provide operations and the other site will be taken offline
and be upgraded followed by the same transition to operations. Once both sites are online, failover will be
verified and one site will be taken down and corrections be made if needed as the other site provides
operations.
Funding to cover ongoing support of software and hardware will be provided via the annual funding
allocation within the department. Internal staffing will be maintaining the system.
