Metadata engine: it’s the server part of the metadata engine. It
executes all the operations on real data sources, using the
knowledge contained in the repository. It provides a uniform view
of data sources, regardless of its technology, deployment etc.;

Application server: it’s the frontend component that runs on the server
machine and serves all requests coming from the clients, in form of web
services requests. It can use several protocols to interact with clients. It
has no user interface and can interact only with other applicative
components;
Data source drivers: they are the specific components that allow the
system to interact directly with the data sources
Plugin manager: the entire server architecture has several extension
points that can be used to customize the behavior of the different
components. It is possible to write ‘helpers’ to implement specific context
requirements.

Register Module
Register is the book used to :
•
Record any kind of Incoming/outcoming documents;

Record any information about the document;

Open a specific Dossier for the incoming/outcoming documents;

Assign the document to one or more Office;

Monitor the status of a Document assigned.
Data Manager Module
The Data Manager allows to navigate and update (the 4 common data operations often
referred as C.R.U.D. functions, i.e. create, read, update, delete) the entities represented inside
the conceptual model of the data sources.
In other words, the user is given a real-world-based representation of the data model,
expressed in terms of familiar items like Persons, Crimes, Traffickers, Victims, Assets, etc., hiding
the underlying physical architecture of the data source(s).
The user is guided in its work by a workflow engine, which enforces validation rules and
integrity checks to grant the data consistency.

Graphical Navigator
Aim of the module is to provide a graphical representation of data entities and the
relationships between them.
The friendly interface makes easy to find the relations between concepts.

Data Query Builder
This module provides a friendly graphical interface for designing complex queries
(both analytic and statistic) and store them permanently in the application repository in order
to be recalled and submitted many times in a easy way. The query can be submitted on the
local or external database.
At design-time, the user can interactively design a query, step-by-step, and immediately test it
over the underlying logical data model.
An handy web interface allows users to visually browse the saved queries and run them over
the database.

Thematic Search
This module allows to explore data using predefined functional paths.
The user can navigate self-consistent ‘sheets’ that contain information useful to
perform daily tasks. A set of ‘sheets’ make a ‘theme’.
The system can be configured (by a tool) as a collection of ‘themes’ prepared to
satisfy each organizational role.
Each role can have several access points to start the navigation process (typically by
choosing a theme, fill-in search parameters, browsing the results).

The module automatically discovers indirect relations between two elements of the data source.
The main capability is to take out implicit knowledge stored in the system.
The system infers it as a result of deductions that could be done analyzing explicit relationships
and formulating investigative hypothesis.

• Results of easy understanding.
As an example, the knowledge of two subjects can be inferred by the presence of direct elements
that certify it, or deducted from multiple situations that are around it.
We can say that a “subject” attends the house of his own father, this is a deductive element; if the
“subject” uses the car of his own father is, at the same time, a deductive element.
Geo Explorer
The peculiarity of this complex module is to provide a unified geo-referenced view
of data coming from different data sources. This makes simpler to achieve
cooperation at application level.
From the client perspective, it’s possible to interact with layers published from several
organizations without necessarily integrate and transform the information in advance.
It’s also possible to integrate several sources even not directly associated with
geospatial coordinates (e.g., address geocoding).
