11th January 2016 Dear Parents, Class 4 Spring Newsletter Happy New Year to you all! We have had a great start to the Spring Term, starting with an enquiry session about our new topic: “It’s all Greek to me!” The children thought of some fantastic questions in response to a selection of photographs and artefacts and we are now starting to find the answers to those questions. You are all invited to join us in our “fantastic finish”, when we have our Greek Day on the afternoon of 22nd March. P.E. Please make sure that there is a full P.E. kit in school at all times in case we have a change of timetable or manage to fit in some extra P.E. sessions. We are very lucky to have the benefit of specialist P.E. coaches to deliver our P.E. lessons on Monday mornings. We will continue to keep active whilst also having fun for the rest of the week with our daily 5-a-day sessions. Spanish We are also benefitting from specialist teaching in Spanish – a new venture for Holy Trinity! We are looking forward to learning a new language and welcoming Seῆora Sanchez to Class 4 every Monday. Water Please make sure that your child has a water bottle in school, so they are able to stay hydrated during lessons. Homework Homework will be given out every Tuesday starting on tomorrow, on the 12th February. This will consist of a spelling investigation or list of words to learn, a piece of English work (usually connected with our grammar or punctuation sessions) and some Maths to consolidate our Maths curriculum. The spellings will be tested weekly in a dictation. We will continue to test times tables and division facts weekly. Thank you to all those parents who have supported your children in learning these facts – many children have completed their times tables and are doing well with division facts. Please ensure the homework is returned on Monday morning to give time for marking. If you would like any further resources to help your children at home, don’t forget Mathletics and Bug Club – both high quality tools for maths and reading comprehension. Allotment help needed in March! We haven’t yet had a chance to get our allotment going, but Spring is just around the corner! We would be really grateful of your time to work with the children in learning the valuable skill of growing fruit and vegetables. If you have any concerns or anything you would like to discuss concerning your child’s work or welfare, please do not hesitate to make an appointment to speak to me after school. Kind regards, Mrs Rice
