St Dionis Church, Parsons Green, SW6 Director of Operations Overview Working closely with the vicar, the Director of Operations will play a vital role in implementing the church’s vision and mission as well as facilitating and supporting the growth of the church. A key objective for the Director of Operations will be to free up the vicar and pastoral staff as much as possible from day to day operations so that they can focus on developing their respective areas of ministry. Main duties and responsibilities The Director of Operations will be responsible for facilitating the systems that release the life and ministry of the church including: Directing and communicating the church programme throughout the year. Developing and managing the systems that support the pastoral work of the church at every level – from integrating newcomers to supporting the nurture and development of long-term members. Conducting regular audits and reviews of all the church’s activities and ministries to ensure maximum effectiveness and efficiency. Ensuring a plan is developed for delivering the church's mission statement, including outreach to the local community. Responsibility for the oversight of the church office staff team including training and appraisal. Managing the church’s external profile with oversight of all its communications including social media. Line managing administrative staff and strategic volunteers, incorporating areas such as: 1. Administrative Support for the Area Dean 2. ‘Front of house’ receptionist – door, phone, email inquiries, baptisms, weddings and funerals and other church bookings. 3. Maintenance of the church site and facilities – legal compliance, servicing equipment and purchase of supplies 4. Book keeping, in liaison with the church treasurer Personal characteristics required Extremely well-organised and a reliable self-starter. Able to work on their own and unsupervised, completing routine and ad hoc tasks. Able to function well in teams and facilitate others working in teams as well as capable of assuming team leadership roles when necessary. Pastoral awareness – capable of sensitively dealing with people in need or in a crisis. Trustworthy in handling confidential information. Enjoys releasing others to exercise their gifts and use them to serve the church and community. A willing heart. Prepared to go ‘the extra mile’ and able to appreciate the values and ethos of a voluntary organisation. Readiness to grow in the role and develop skills (with relevant training). Able to work happily within the authority structures of the Church of England. They will be expected to be (or become) an active member of St Dionis church with a living, personal Christian faith. Relevant Skills Proven administrative gifts and clear strategic thinker. Ability to delegate well and to prioritise different tasks. Excellent time management: able to work productively to deadlines. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. Highly competent in Microsoft Office – (Word, Excel, PowerPoint & Outlook) with the confidence to use a web-based content management system (training provided if needed). Experience with accounting software (eg Data Dev, Sage) would be an advantage. Previous work experience Seasoned experience in the implementation of programmes on a strategic and day-to-day basis in a church, voluntary organisation or corporate organisation is essential. Experience in project and/or event management is essential. Financial knowledge and a good grasp of accounting principles would be an advantage. Working arrangements • Working hours: 37.5 hours per week allowing for a degree of flexibility in the weekly/monthly working pattern. Some weekend and evening work may be required. • Holiday: 25 days pa. • Salary: £30K pa. • Reporting: The Director of Operations will be employed by the Parochial Church Council and will report directly to the vicar. • Office Location: The Vestry, 18a, Parsons Green, SW6 4UH.
