UNITED NATIONS CHILDREN’S FUND Division of Communication Terms of Reference - Temporary Appointment Temporary Appointment – L2 Level – Communication Officer Digital Knowledge, Trends and Analysis Coordinator 1) Rationale and context of the assignment This post is the Digital Strategy Section’s focal point on digital knowledge, trends and analysis, and works out of the Social Media and Engagement team. The staff member will be responsible for sharing digital knowledge, capacity building and training of UNICEF staff worldwide as a core part of UNICEF’s Digital Center of Excellence. In addition he/she will play a key role in developing and maintaining partnerships with digital platforms, products and agencies, brands, artists and organizations. She/he will also support digital editorial processes and content creation as well as monitoring and evaluation strategies. 2) Scope of Work: Sharing digital knowledge, trends and analysis with UNICEF staff worldwide through digital outreach, trainings, webinars, case studies and how-to guides. Support the training and capacity building efforts of the Digital Center of Excellence. Regularly update UNICEF’s digital and communications communities of practice with new how-to guides, case studies and best practice guides. Manage the Digital Center of Excellence community on Yammer. Support the development of an intranet Digital Center of Excellence site serving as a repository of resources and exchange platform. Monitor and stimulate exchanges on said platform. In alignment with organizational objectives, support country and regional office digital focal points with strategy, planning, and creative advice. Investigate new digital media channels and platforms which could benefit UNICEF’s work, assisting in piloting as appropriate. Assist the Digital Community Manager and Social Media Editors in devising creative content ideas. Project manage the creation of innovative and engaging digital products, including videos and apps Conduct research on the global digital media landscape – with a focus on less developed countries as well as cutting edge trends - preparing descriptive reports to inform the section’s projects and initiatives and feeding information to colleagues as appropriate. Identify and establish partnerships with digital platforms, products and agencies, brands, artists and organizations which may strengthen UNICEF’s digital outputs, establishing a network of potential partners. Cultivate and manage relationships with partners. Support the Digital Strategy section focal point in the preparation of contracts and LTAs with partners as appropriate. Identify external events and conferences that could showcase the work of the digital strategy section and lead to potential partnerships and submit ideas to be presented. Identify organizations and figures in the digital sphere to speak at UNICEF HQ and participate in webinars. Support the Digital Strategy Section’s Analysis Specialist in the monitoring and evaluation of digital campaigns and initiatives. Support the editorial processes and monitoring and moderation of the UNICEF’s global social media channels as a key part of the team’s ‘Moderation Roster’. 3) Responsibilities: Managing day-to-day activity on the UNICEF Digital Center of Excellence community on Yammer and internal exchange platform, facilitating knowledge sharing through regularly sharing relevant articles and encouraging lively discussions. Coordinating trainings and webinars with UNICEF HQ and global staff; facilitate the sharing of good practice for digital content and engagement across teams and offices. Updating UNICEF’s internal repository platform with new and updated best practice and how to guides and case studies. Maintaining list of UNICEF digital focal points. Keeping an eye on – and communicating and assessing - how other organizations are using digital tools to drive their work and highlighting award winning digital engagement and content efforts. Supporting digital colleagues in the implementation of new platforms and strategies as well as the coordination of digital campaigns. Devising creative and innovative content ideas and digital products, including videos and apps, in close collaboration with digital colleagues. Project managing the creation of digital products, regularly reporting back to management and colleagues on progress. Identifying and cultivating relationships with companies and organizations that have digital products or knowledge that can benefit UNICEF’s digital efforts. Establishing partnerships with said companies and organizations as appropriate, setting up a network of partners – including those willing to work pro-bono. Drawing up contracts and LTAs with partners. Coordinating speaking opportunities at events, conferences, panels where the section’s work can be presented to external audiences. Attending forums, events, and conferences on digital media, with a view to setting up partnerships. Reporting back on digital learnings as appropriate. Creating and updating a shared list of relevant forums, events, conferences, seminars and training opportunities that would be of interest to the section and the broader digital community. Coordinating opportunities for colleagues to attend. Supporting the creation of social and digital media reports on global campaigns or initiatives as well as lessons learned. Supporting the editorial and monitoring processes of the section through daily inputs on content and regularly performing monitoring duties as part of the social media team’s ‘Moderation Roster’. 4) Duty Station: The Digital Knowledge, Trends and Analysis Coordinator will work at the UNICEF offices in New York Headquarters (NYHQ). Travel opportunities may arise and will take place under UNICEF guidelines. 5) Qualifications or specialized knowledge/ experience required: Expert knowledge of digital media communication behaviours in both developing and developed regions. Proven ability to present and communicate new projects to a varied audience. Proven skills in communication, networking, strategic thinking, advocacy, negotiation, and ability to relate to a young audience. Proven ability to conceptualize, plan and execute ideas as well as transfer knowledge and skills. Proven ability to coordinate online media hubs. Strong writing and communication skills and the aptitude to handle competing messages and priorities with multiple audiences. Knowledge of current trends in youth participation and new media, as well as good understanding of development issues, world affairs and current events. Experience in project management. Bachelor Degree in social science, international affairs, or communication; Masters preferred. The duration of the appointment will be 364 days.
