Purpose of Role
The jobholder is the senior manager responsible for all on-site operations and manufacturing related
activities – including Productivity, Technical Compliance, GMP, Service Level, Stock & Waste
Management, Financial and Production KPI’s.
Their primary activity is to ensure that product is made within agreed cost and quality standard, within
specified timeframes, to meet customer specifications and commitments and to generate continuous
improvement in the quality of manufacturing performance and best practice.
Key Result Areas
Duties & Responsibilities: Ensure compliance with all company, customer and statutory requirements on Health and Safety
and food quality.
 Contributing to the development of strategies and the appropriate policies within all areas of
manufacturing
 Participation in the preparation of the annual business plan to meet the long-term business
objectives for site
 Agreeing departmental objectives and priorities, which support the business plan, and assisting in
generating the site budget, which ensures resources are available to meet those objectives.
 Liaising with customers and other external bodies and individuals on matters of company
business.
 Ensure compliance with all company, customer and statutory requirements on Health and Safety
and food quality.
 Agree, monitor, communicate and review performance standards for all production activities and
devise and implement improvement plans. Key performance standards will include H&S
compliance, quality compliance, service level, yield, labour costs, material usage, plant
efficiencies, variances and waste.
 Identify capital investment opportunities, which will enhance production performance and prepare
budgets for such investment.
 Identify opportunities for cost reduction by challenging existing practises, procedures and
methods without compromising quality or service levels.
 Review subordinates performance to identify weaknesses and plan action to overcome those
weaknesses.
 Develop and implement a communication plan to ensure all personnel are aware of the business
objectives and that standards, goals, targets and achievement are clearly understood.
 Be aware of quality parameters through written product specifications and production methods.
 Be responsible for physical quality of dispatched final products.
 Monitor and maximise department performance and service level information – productivity,
service reports, quality reports, yield analysis.
 Control expenditure of direct material costs, evaluate against budgeted forecast.
 Be aware of, and enforce, legislative and customer requirements in respect of good
manufacturing HACCP and hygiene practices.
 Aid cultural growth and development and service functions through employee communication,
empowerment and increased customer/product focus.



Ensure that the necessary recruitment and training takes place to meet present and future
manpower requirements.
Ensure that standards of discipline and behaviour are enforced in line with company policy.
Motivate, develop, coach and support all personnel within production operations to gain their
maximum commitment and effectiveness.

AUTHORITY
The level of authority delegated to the jobholder will include the following:



All disciplinary action involving direct and indirect reports
Staff training and development proposals and cost control
Daily remedial actions to address downtime with direct maintenance support
Travel and accommodation expenditure of self and reports within the UK
