Greetings, Iowa ANFP members;
As your new President, I would like to take this opportunity to give you some insight on my hopes for the
upcoming year. I, along with your board, plan to take a real hard look at the direction we are going. I
welcome member feedback. At our fall meeting we did just that. We had a short survey that you
answered at the beginning of the day with the results given at the end. It was great to have that
immediate feedback to the questions that were posed.
An immediate goal for the upcoming year is to form an education committee. Currently, the PresidentElect has the main responsibility for planning the Spring and Fall workshops. At our Winter Board
Meeting we will be forming a new Education Committee. If you are interested in being on the new
Education Committee, please let a board member know. We need at least 3 -4 individuals to make this a
success.
Another goal for the upcoming year is to reach out to our neighboring states to share ideas, attend their
conferences and work on the common goal of promoting the CDM in healthcare systems. The NE impact
area meetings draw attendees from Wisconsin and Illinois at times. I would like this to spread to the NW,
SE and SW impact areas by reaching across state borders and offering these meetings to our neighbors.
ANFP has three regional meetings planned this spring and our Annual Conference and Expo is planned for
August. Please refer to page 2 of the newsletter for details about these meetings. Don’t forget about
grant opportunities that are available for these events as well! Information regarding these opportunities
may be found on page 4 of this newsletter.
See you in the Spring!
Sheri

Pride in Foodservice Week Planned for
February 2-6, 2015
Contact Mary Olson, IANFP Treasurer, for detailed
information on any of the above items.
Pride in FoodService Week is an annual celebration honoring
foodservice professionals and their staff for their expertise and
dedication on the job.
Foodservice personnel work hard to ensure that their clients’
nutritional needs are met in long-term care facilities, hospitals,
schools, correctional centers, military installations, community
feeding programs, and more. They are responsible for feeding
clients of all ages and backgrounds, often three times a day,
365 days a year. Hundreds celebrate the recognition week in
a variety of creative ways, including dietary trivia contents,
special menus, cafeteria decorations, and more.
Look for a mini poster along with ideas for celebrating in the
January issue of Edge magazine. A contest to recognize the
most creative celebration will also be held. Watch for details in
the January edition of eNews!
The Nutrition & Foodservice Education Foundation (NFEF) Offers Grants
(NFEF) is proud to support grant opportunities for nutrition and foodservice professionals and students entering the
field. Grants are available for ANFP members to Regional Meetings, the National Leadership Conference and Leadership
Institute. Grants are applied to the registration fee, and the balance of funds is provided to recipients to offset travel/hotel costs.
Visit the www.NFEFoundation.org for more information on available grants.

CE Self-Reporting is Here: A Closer Look at the CE Audit Process
CE self-reporting is officially here! CDMs are now responsible for tracking their own continuing education (CE)
hours, and submitting them at the end of their three-year cycle. In short, CDMs will participate in CE activities,
record their activity in the CE reporting record, and retain proof of attendance or completion.
Each year a percentage of CDMs who have completed their CE cycle will be randomly selected for audit and/or by
an identified trigger. Triggers may include non-compliance with CE requirements of the Certifying Board for
Dietary Managers, or a violation of the CBDM Code of Ethics.
Here’s the timeline for the audit process: June 1: The CBDM sends a notification of audit. June 1-15: CDMs being
audited must submit CE documentation to the CBDM. June 15-August 15: The CBDM reviews CE documentation
submitted. August 15-30: Audited individuals will be notified of the outcome, which will result in continuation of
CDM active status or they will have 15 days to appeal any adverse decision to the CBDM Audit Committee.
CDMs should save all CE-related documentation for two three-year certification cycles.
By now, all CDMs should have received in the mail the CBDM Guide to Maintaining Your CDM, CFPP Credential,
which contains step-by-step instructions and CE documentation requirements. If you did not receive a copy, you
can download it at http://www.anfponline.org/Docs/CE_SelfReporting_Guide.pdf (provide link) Keep this
brochure handy for easy directions on reporting your CE!
Since the CE reporting period is now in full swing, please remember that once continuing education hours have
been earned for a specific program, they cannot be resubmitted for credit again, regardless of whether it’s a new
certification period. CDMs can only earn credit once for any given program.
