World Leadership Congress
2017 Chairperson Application
The World Leadership Congress is HOBY’s single largest annual student leadership event with over 400
student participants. The Volunteer Team for this program is nearly 100 strong, led by a volunteer Chairperson
who works directly with HOBY’s Director of International Programs on the planning, development and
implementation of the annual World Leadership Congress.
The WLC Chair’s responsibilities include, but not limited to:
 Set the theme/vision for the program/event
 Contact/interview volunteer applicants
 Recruit and develop the volunteer team
 Communicate regularly with leadership team / individual teams / Director of International Programs
 Meet weekly with Director of International Programs
 Conduct regular Leadership Team meetings
 Meet planning objectives in a timely manner
 Assist each team as needed to meet their deadlines/planning objectives
 Work with each team on appropriate staff training needs
 Assist in any volunteer areas as needed
 Attend the HOBY Training Institute
Ideal candidates should possess the following qualifications:
 A minimum of seven year’s HOBY Volunteer experience in a variety of “Key Volunteer” roles
(Director or above) including a combination of local and national / international volunteer roles.
Experience as a Leadership Seminar Chairperson and/or Corporate Board President is strongly
recommended.
 A minimum of five years WLC volunteer experience with a record of increased responsibility /
leadership involvement.
 A thorough understanding of the HOBY program and organization;
 Minimum of 25 years of age;
 Demonstrated capacity to be well organized, meet deadlines, lead a team successfully.
Application Process and Appointment Timeline:
 Any interested candidate should complete an application and return it with a copy of your current
resume to HOBY’s Director of International Programs by June 26, 2015.
 Applications will be reviewed and finalist candidates will be contacted for an interview by July 10,
2015.
 Finalist interviews will be conducted and concluded by July 17, 2015.
 The 2017 WLC Chair will be announced during the Closing Banquet at the 2015 WLC.
 Applicants not selected will be notified prior to the conclusion of the 2015 World Leadership Congress.
