(What the students shared in large group discussion) Reading Writing Oral communication - - Science - - Technology - Math - - We learned about space and the planets We read informative texts We learned how to use a KWL chart We learned how to understand informative texts We learned how to write together using a wiki We learned how to fill in a KWL chart We learned how to write up an informative fact sheet We learned how to use sub titles We learned some new French words such as : astéroïd, cratère, anneau, extraterrestre, étoile filante, constellation, comète, système solaire, Jupiter, tache rouge, un trou noir et gaz. We learned how to conduct a presentation in French. We learned about astronauts such as Chris Hadfield and Neil Armstrong. We did an experiment using seeds that spent 22 months in space. We made predictions, observed, and noted our results. We created constellations using a constellation/star map. We created our own models of the solar system using the information we learned. We experimented with magnets so we could learn about the magnetic force of the earth. We learned how to use a wiki. We learned how and why to be anonymous on a wiki. (internet safety) We learned how to use and navigate space websites. We learned how to navigate Firefox. We learned how to use google earth. (We also learned that Google Earth has 3D maps of the Moon and Mars, and has a map of the constellations). We learned ordinal numbers (first, second, third…) and used them to put the planets in order. We learned the names of large numbers in French (thousand, million, one hundred million, etc) We learned words such as kilometer and looked at distance (non-standard vocabulary- close vs. distant) We use non-standard vocabulary to describe masse and volume (bigger/smaller). We looked at temperature and learned words such as degrees Celsius (we also used non-standard vocabulary such as colder and hotter). - Art - - We learned how to mix and blend colors using oil pastels. We learned how to use more than one medium to create multi dimensions (marker, crayon, color pencils). We learned how to create 3D objects (planets) using plasticine. We learned how to mix colors when using plasticine. How did you do? Some comments made by students: - I can read and understand informative texts a little better. - I am better at using oil pastels and can now mix and blend colors. - I know how to create a factual chart. - I am better at spelling words. - I can put the planets in order and use ordinal numbers to do it. - I am better at navigating websites. - I learned a lot about Neptune. - I know how to use Firefox. - I know how to use a wiki. - I know how to use Google Earth. - I can understand informative texts better. - I really loved working on the project poster. How did you know? (whole class discussion) We know that we can do these because it shows in our work (project poster, wiki, KWL charts, artwork, and Science experiments. How could you improve? (Class discussion) - We need to continue to work on concentrating (ignoring distractions) during seat work time. We need to work on improving our listening skills. We need to continue to practice reading for longer periods of time (stamina). We need to continue to work on our revision skills in writing. What do you do or where did you go when you needed help?
