Done practical training on Orcad and Auto-cad for creation of circuits and 2D/3D Structures respectively, included in our curriculum. STATEMENT OF PURPOSE Yashwant Singh Bisht http://yashbisht.110mb.com Since Childhood I had a strong inclination towards creative use of science for the enhancement of living surroundings. Almost everything that we see around us today whether it be a common mobile or a Satellite or a Chatbot on some messenger, all depends upon earlier marvels achieved by the researchers or intellectuals in their fields. Being highly motivated by these researches and marvels, and realizing that these researches are the foundation for the future; I have chosen to widen my knowledge in the fields of my interest and pursue a career of research in the best of the academic and research organizations in the world. With this goal in mind, I wish to apply for an MS degree in Computer Science in your prestigious university. Computer Science is a subject that fascinates me endlessly. I got introduced to computer science as subject during my high school studies, and I was really attracted towards computer science from the beginning. I have been a consistent performer and got 89.6 % in SSC and 88.2 % in HSC. Keeping in mind my interests and my excellent academic performance I got motivated to take up Computer Science as my career, subsequently I gave CEE exam for admission into prestigious DCE (Delhi College of Engineering) and got a rank of 416 among the 70000 students who gave the exam and got admitted to the B.E. Computer Science program, to strengthen my fundamentals and broaden my knowledge base during the course of my undergraduate degree. Here I managed to get 71% marks in my B.E. and Second highest (88%) marks in my Final year Thesis. My academic life has been embraced with variety of achievements and accomplishments. I had been on merit list for consecutive 6 years. During my initials year in college I started off with small things like a simple calculators in C#, games on C++, a notepad in C#, and gradually building more complicated utilities like a java Media player using JMF, a module for obstacle avoidance in C++ for Hi-tech robotics during my internship. I believe that I have performed very assiduously and gained a lot of knowledge during past 4-5 years, my learning curve had been very steep and I have that aptitude to achieve a lot in the upcoming years. I also participated in numerous competitions, and was fortunate enough to excel in many of them. During my 3rd year I participated in imagine cup algorithm event and qualified as top 100 among all international competitors. My professors were highly appreciative of my performance particularly in the practical field and also for the awards and laurels I’ve won representing my college at state and national level Technical Symposiums. My stay in DCE as an undergraduate had been very enlightening, and offered me a lot to learn. Initially I got interested in Learning new languages and tools, later I was heavily gravitated toward the two fields of Artificial Intelligence and Networking. I was so captivated by AI that I started to immerse myself deeply into these subjects and spent long hours in the laboratory. This helped me understand and getting through knowledge of the subject. I worked on my final year project “A novel implementation of clustering Algorithm on CUDA” under the guidance of Mrs. Daya Gupta (Head of Computer Department) in CUDA and Visual C++ and we used a heuristic function to find the initial mean coordinates and a new approach to find clusters in a data set in parallel processing environment. It was one of the best Research Project and I received second highest marks in the university for the same. During my 8th Semester I was elected to do the project at Hi-tech Robotics Ltd. as an intern. This enabled me to work with one the best minds in dedicated to engineering research in my country. My work was to develop an Obstacle Avoidance module for their autonomous robotic software, Softbrain. During my internship, sometimes I spent more than ten hours a day at Hi-tech, reading thesis and research papers on Dynamic Window approach for obstacle avoidance and developing the module. I am glad to say that the efforts paid off in the end and it also added a lot to my knowledge. Networking has been another area of my focus. The study at the college was rewarding and laid a solid foundation in me over the subject and enhanced my enthusiasm, which later help me in taking a career of Security Consultant in Bank of America India Ltd. as Sr. Tech. Associate. My Daily work at Bank of America India Ltd. includes working on Defensive programming, Network Security, understanding and implementing new Cryptographic researches. Right now I am with Bank of America Continuum India ltd and here also I have been a recipient of many awards in such a short time. I have won many technology related quizzes, banking quizzes and few more recognitions at BOAIL. Recently we presented a white paper on Phishing at Bank of America, and are working on to publish few more white papers there. Also at BOA out of curiosity I build a cryptography enable chat server client. Although its use is banned in the office, I sometimes use for chatting to my friends in the office. On my personal front I have worked on a project for finding patterns in a rasterization method on line segments. I always had that flair to simplify things and try to find solutions to intricate problems. This really helped me in this project. Later on I published this as a research paper under ICCMS 2011 conference whose proceedings are submitted in IEEE XPLORE. It was an extension of Bresenham’s Line drawing algorithm. I strongly feel that Computer Science program at University of Minnesota is highly structured program because it provides the right balance between theory and practice. It increased my zeal to study at UMN when I saw AIRVL lab and the deep research done its members on UMN website. Also its outstanding faculty and research facilities and flexibility in curriculum inspires me to study at UMN. I was also very captivated by the work done by Dr. Arindam Banerjee and Dr. Nikolaos Papanikolopoulosin the field of Machine Learning and Scout Robots while I was going through UMN website and I would be really grateful if I get an opportunity to work with them. University of Minnesota has made a lot of discoveries in the field of computers ever since its establishment and I just want to be a contributor to this evolution process. I hope to become a part of this dynamic culture which will give me a leading edge to work effectively in diverse teams and situations. I hope my background and qualifications are found suitable for admission to Computer Science at University of Minnesota. I would consider it an honor if I could study at your prestigious University and assure you that I will put in my utmost effort into this domain.
