A. Description of the Course This course will explore the field of religion and conflict resolution. The first six sessions will be taught by Dr. Daniel Roth. In these sessions we will explore religious models of conflict resolution as found in classical Jewish, Islamic and Christian texts and comparing them to contemporary conflict resolution theories with an eye to how such models can be implemented in society today. The second set of six sessions will be taught by Dr. Alick Isaacs. These sessions will explore the specific meaning of peace that characterizes Biblical and Rabbinic thought. It will uncover the centrality of this idea in the writings of modern secular and religious spiritual Zionist thinkers. Finally the course will address the spiritual meaning of peace in the context of the practice of conflict resolution in general and most particularly in the context of addressing the concerns of religious actors in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
