Activity: Perform a Project Premortem
We all know you learn more from failure than from success
Prospective Hindsight
• Imagining that an event has already occurred increases the ability to correctly identify reasons for future outcomes by 30%
• Using prospective hindsight to conduct a premortem helps project teams identify risks at the outset
• Doing this at the beginning of a project rather than the end allows the project to be improved rather than autopsied
It’s Better to Know Now
And Prepare for the Worst
4 Steps
• Work individually to imagine the project has failed spectacularly and independently write down every reason you can think of for the failure
• Group share – work together to make a list of all the potential pitfalls
• Work individually to identify one new thing you or your team can do to support the project or prevent a potential pitfall
• Group share – work together to make a list of all the pre-emptive supports
Step 1: Imagine Spectacular Failure
Step 2: Share Your Pitfalls
Step 3: Think of a Protective or
Preventive Action You Could Take
Step 4:
Share Your Best Ideas
Transition to Affinity Groups
Work together to identify ways your affinity group can begin preparing for CC3.0 implementation.
