Gilgamesh Theatre

The Task:

I will assign each group of three students a tablet of The Epic of Gilgamesh. You and your group will convert your assigned tablet into a script format, and will then make a video recording of your group performing your script.

The Due Date:

Friday September 13 th (You have almost three weeks to complete this project.)

Your Group Members:

Your Tablet:

Guidelines:

Your video must be a minimum of five minutes of substantive content (not two minutes of dialogue and three minutes of awkward silence).

Your video and script must include all the major plot points of the tablet you are assigned. If your group turns in a video that meets the time limit but does not include all the major plot points of the tablet you have been assigned, you will lose points.

Your final script must be typed and MLA formatted (see sample page). You must bring a typed copy of your script to class on the 13 th , and your group must also submit a copy of your scrip finished script on Turnitin by 8:00 AM on September 13 th .

Remember that content (both visual and verbal) must be Christ honoring and meet HCA guidelines. Don’t say or wear anything that you could not say or wear at school (this does not mean you have to wear your uniform).

Helpful Hints

You do not necessarily need to read the entire book before you begin working on this project. Read a summary of the text from a site such as Shmoop of Cliffnotes first to get an idea of the overall plot. However, remember to read your tablet thoroughly before

writing your script.

Feel free to be creative! While you must remain true to the plot of the tablet, you may

“modernize” the text. For example, in the film version of Romeo and Juliet starring Clair

Danes and Lenoardo DeCapreo characters wear modern clothing and use guns instead of swords.

See me with any questions! Feel free to text or email me as you are working on this project if the need arises.

You may use friends from outside of this class as actors or videographers. However, only your group may write the script and your group should carry the primary roles in your video.

Best Friends Forever

Setting:

Enkidu is making his way to the marriage house to confront Gilgamesh. Enkidu reaches the marriage house and blocks Gilgamesh just as he is arriving.

Enkidu: Hey! You can’t go in there! I’m in Uruk now, and things are going to be different!

Gilgamesh: I’ll show you who’s king!

(The two fight it out, Gilgamesh is obviously stronger.)

Enkidu: Wow, Gil! I had no idea how strong you really are. Now that I know you’re the strongest and best, I’ll be your sidekick for all time!
